All CD4E's used in the Contour have 3 wires. If it is a manual it has 2-wires. Do you know where they got the transmission from?

Ive got an 05 neon that has been sitting for 1 1/2 years. the speedometer doesnt work and engine light is on. checked code, 501, speed censor. where is the censor located and how hard is it to replace?

If your Neon is running, go to one of the chain auto parts stores and ask for a free scan of your computer's error register; it may have one or more error codes stored.
If you plan on any DIY work, I suggest you invest $25 in a Haynes manual for the car, You can get these at most all parts stores or on line:

It is either stuck and will need to be moved by hand or you need a new speedometer cable or censor.

My speedometer is intermittant and my engine light comes on and are the speedometer censor controls easy to change

Go to Autozone or Oreillys and get a free scan. Sometimes the alternator can cause the speedometer to give false readings. The parts guys can show you where the parts go. The sensor should not be too hard to replace.

Need to know where the speedometer censor is located

What type of car is it? Most front wheel drives have a 3 wire plug on the top of the transmission.

My accord speedometer stays in 20 m/hr when its running

It might be the part that goes directly to the transmission. Its right under the speed censor. It has two hoses attached to it, and three 10mm bolts. To remove it, first remove the cable attached to the speed sensor, then remove the two hoses (power steering fluid will spill), remove the three bolt, After that's off, you have to wiggle it out, which might be really hard because sometimes it comes out easy and sometimes it doesn't. This piece has a gear at the bottom that could have worn out, and replacing the top part alone might not solve the problem. Hope this helps, good luck.

P.S. when this is out, you cant drive the car.

Won't shift out of low,speedometer doesn't work

see my comments, not 100% sure that it was the out put speed censor or not, but after reconnecting the wires to a new censor and reconnecting the battery and clearing codes it worked. connection was not clipped may have been loose
