My factory stereo wont come out of mt 91 Tempo. I have the ford radio removal kit (the U shaped tools). Its completely stuck and wont budge. It doesn't even feel like there's anything holding the radio on the sides that the tool goes into.

That's the weird thing, it doesn't even feel like there's locks.

Hi there is a knack to doing this..when you insert the keys into either side of the stereo, make sure when you pull up..that you are also pulling outwards at the same time, this then pushes in the locks that hold the radio in...hope that helps

i know it wont feel like there is, but all they are , are 2 clips top and bottom and all you are doing is pushing them in towards the radio so when you pull the tabs on the side of the clips are not as wide or wider than the fascia that you are pulling it from..

2002 FORD F250 7.3L- I need to take my radio out to get to the Body Control Module. I bought the U-shaped tools to get radio out but it simply will not come out. Have been at this for hours. Thanks

There are many strange shaped tools in the complete kit for radio removal - if the U-shaped tools are the correct ones for your radio, removal should be straightforward.

The U-shaped tools have a notch machined into the end of each leg and it is necessary to push the tool into the holes until they click into place; the notches are then fully engaged and the retainers have been disengaged from the radio mounting sleeve.

It is sometimes necessary to give the tool a bit of a wriggle during the engagement process. Once fully engaged the tools are used to withdraw the radio, though it is usually necessary to apply a little outward force to the tools to increase the disengagement of the retainers and to increase the "grip" the tools have in the radio...

How do I remove the stereo from my 2004 Ford Focus ZX5?

U will need to go to the Ford dealer and buy the special tool kit (about $5) that lets u remove the radio from the dash, the two little tools release the spring clips on the sides of the radio that retain it in the dash, I also think that u can get these tools at any NAPA auto parts store.

Remove factory radio

Must have special U-shaped tool to release latch on both sides of radio. Tools are sold in sets as it requires one on both sides of radio. Insert tool about a half inch and the slightly push towards outside of stereo to remove. A little tricky for first timers

Stereo system

You will need to make a special tool. On each side of the radio is two holes, one on top of the other. Here is a picture.

You will need to use a coat hanger and cut it into two 6 in pieces. Bend each piece into a U shape as the picture shows. Insert the u-shaped tool into the holes. Use a small flat head screw driver and lightly pry the radio out. Your radio should be able to slide out at this point. I hope this is helpful.

STEREO REMOVAL

Assuming it's a Ford radio, you'll see 4 small holes on the radio front panel, 2 on each side. A pair of "U" shaped tools (buy them at almost any parts store) go into these holes, then pry outward to release the radio. I've made the tools myself by bending some stiff wire (a coat hanger works).
