Have you changed your fuel cap? That is usually the culprit. If that doesn't solve your issue, a simple smoke test will show you where the system is leaking.

P1444 EVAP Canister Purge Volume Control Solenoid Valve
This system controls flow rate of fuel vapor from the EVAP canister. The opening of the vapor by-pass passage in the EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve changes to control the flow rate. The EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve repeats ON/OFF operation according to the signal sent from the ECM. The opening of the valve varies for optimum engine control. The optimum value stored in the ECM is determined by considering various engine conditions. When the engine is operating, the flow rate of fuel vapor from the EVAP canister is regulated as the air flow changes.

It sounds like you may have a problem with your fuel vapor canister. It stores fuel vapors and re-routes fumes back to the engine to be used for combustion. The problem may be the canisters fumes are being stored in the tank rather than being stored in the canister. Do you smell fuel vapors inside the cab?

The vacuum lines run from the canister to the intake manifold. One is the purge hose to deliver stored fuel vapor to the intake to be burnd when engine is warm and you are crusing at part throttle. The other line is the vacuum line to operate it.

Fuel vapors trapped in the sealed fuel tank are vented through the orificed evaporative emission valve. 1. Disconnect wire harness from evaporative emission canister purge valve (EVAP canister purge valve) (9C915).

1. To install, reverse removal procedure.

Check the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve for being stuck open. Try to blow through it by mouth. It should be closed and should not be able to blow through it by mouth with it de-energized. Can test it per TSB # 01-025/05. Potential Causes: EVAP Canister Purge Control Solenoid Valve


There is a TSB for these and other possible trouble codes to be set due to a stuck open EVAP canister purge solenoid valve - TSB # 01-025/05. A stuck open EVAP canister purge solenoid valve will also allow fuel vapors from the fuel tank to enter the engine when the fuel tank is being filled - resulting in a hard start condition.
