Question about 1997 Pontiac Grand Am
My 1997 pontiac grand am turns off immediatly after starting all lights come on including the anti theft light i have already changed the fuel filter and problem still pursist. i continued cranking it over and eventually it stayed on however it turned on and off for a few days, i am afraid the problem will pursist again.
Having the same probs. Will start then shut off.Start , shut off. When it finally does stay on , all idiot lights flash on and the guages go dead ( except for the speedometer and the gas guage). Then all goes back to normal with the lights off, and the guages work. Flash on, flash off.Mechanic has spent hours trying to figure this out and I cannot afford for him to continue without a valid and viable solution.
Can someone help asap? T.T.
I had the same prob. w my 97 grand am. i bought a new ignition switch and installed it...after installing you have to reset the theft system. all you have to do to reset is turn the key far enough for it to bump the motor over then leave the key in the run position for about ten to twenty minutes...might hook bat. to charger cause if it dies in process you have to start all over...the theft light will either blink then stay on or go out completly....
