Question about 1989 Honda Accord 4 Door

Cooling system fan inop

The fuses are good, the relays are good, the sending units are good. I have pulsating power on the side of the relay that is suppose to be hot when the key is on. If I jump from the hot to the one that is suppose to be hot when the key is on the fan runs.

I need to kno whow to replace the fuel pump, do i have to drop the tank or can i go in under the back seat?

2006 caravan cooling fan inop, not the relay or the Sensor or the PCm


Fuse number 27 in the underhood fuseblock supplies power to the cooling fan relay. If the fuse is good pull the relay and make sure there is power on one of the pins all the time. This will confirm that the relay is getting power from the fuse.

Two of the other 3 pins for the relay should have ground all the time. One is the main ground for the relay and the other is the power feed to the fan motors. If one is missing there is an open in the wiring. if both are missing than I would suspect a bad ground since the relay and the fans share the same ground.

Cooling fan on radiator do not work sending unit on block checks ok with oms meter relay in fuse box ok now what


Change the thermostat and bleed the ir from the cooling system,then ,if the cooling fans do not come on,check the relay module under the cooling fans on drivers side,they are bad to go out,but if there is air in the cooling system,the cooling fans will not come on.

The sending unit is for the light,or gauge,the coolant sensor could be the problem ,or the thermostat not opening,air in the cooling system that needs to be bled out,or the cooling fan relays,or fuse,or the cooling fans could be bad.

06 vue cooling fan wont shut off tried new relay swich and the 40a fuse is obviously good. what could it be, temp sending unit?


The power for the fan comes from 2 relays in the
junction block on the left fender. One is a high fan relay 40amp the other is the low fan relay 20amp.
If either one is stuck, it will power the fan. Also if the
engine coolant temp(ect)sensor is bad, it can send a
false signal to the engine control module(ecm) and powering the fan. With the engine cool, if the fans still
running. Unplug the ect sensor(on thermo. housing)
if the fan stops replace the sensor. If not pull the relays one at a time. And see which one stops the fan. If none of this works it may be an ecm problem.

Check fuses, relays, the hook fan straight to batt power with jumper if fan is inop replace. If it works find your wiring problem.

Where is the fuse or relay for the cooling fan in


You have to refer to your owners manual or an after market service manual for fuse locations but that is not the issue. There is a sending unit screwed into the block with a temp sensor that closes the circuit on the ground side when the cooling system reaches a specified temperature. There is a fuse between the hot side and the fan for over current protection (see manual). A bad sending unit is most likely the culprit. Measure the resistance or continuity when the engine is hot from the sending unit body which is grounded to the block, and the output terminal or black wire running to the fan motor. It should be closed or read less than 0.5 Ohms. If it is open or very high resistance replace it. Good luck to you. I hope thishelps

Condensor fan motor inop - fuse good but replaced anyway - replaced relay. put 12 volts to motor and it worked. what activates the relay to send power to the motor ????


Either radiator fan switch or AC system fan activate relay. Check fan switch or look for AC fan motor fuse. Wiring diagram would help.

I need to see a picture of the cooling fan plug to the fuse box , i need to know if there is some kind of fuse or relay in between the plug and the fuse box.


It's just a direct wire to the relay. The way the system works is the engine temperature sensor signal the ECM which signal the Relay. The relay is direct to the fans and the fuse. The Relay and is also controlled by the by pass switch from the A/C unit which sends signal to the Relay and from Relay to fans direct to battery and fuse. Hope this helps. If your still not getting the fans to work, check the ground wire and then try running a direct wire from the Battery. If it's works then replace the relay if the fan does not work with the direct wire, replace the fans. Good luck and hope this helps.

Radiator fan


You should check the 30 amp "RDI" fuse and the 7.5 ECU-IG fuse. Both fuses are critical to the operation of the fan system. The RDI fuse sends power to the fan #1 relay. The A/C amplifier turns on power to the fan #1 relay, this is why your fan works on A/C.

Now, with no cooling fan under "normal conditions" (A/C off), you need to have a good fan #2 relay, and a good water temp switch. This switch is on the engine, near the thermostat housing (I think); with a single plug, with a white with a blue trace wire going to it. Remove this wire from the sender, and jump it to ground (anywhere on the metal of the engine) with the key on (engine OFF). If the fan starts, you need a new water temp sending unit. If not, then consider a new fan #2 relay. This system is pretty simple.
