2000 volkswagen jetta engine noise

My jetta engine is making a clicking noise that is unusual. the car has 106,000 miles, when i first start the car you don't hear it. but by the time i drive to the store which is right around the corner from my house, i hear it and it dosen't go away. the motor oil is the only thing i have changed recently. i have always used castrol gtx 10w30. the last oil change i made, i used pennsoil 10w30. what do you think the problem could be? my co-worker thinks it could be a lifterthat needs adjusting. if you agree, how expensive is this on my car?

I had the same problem at the same mileage!

It was the evap service port line on the left side of the engine compart. vibrating against the inside of the fender. I just bent it in and no problem.

The only efficient way to indentify the fault is by getting the fault codes read from the on-board diagnostic system. Without that data everything is just guesswork.

However, an unusual ticking could be a failing cambelt which is "new engine time" if not rectified immediately. While there, check the alternator and hydraulic pump belts .

Hope this helps. If this "fixes ya", I'd appreciate a rating for my reply, If not, please delay the rating and add a comment with any extra info you have and I will try to think of something else.

Cheers, D.

Sounds like the blower motor...at low speed it makes the noise due to motor or blower wheel out of balance or something in the blower housing

I am considering buying a used 2000 VW new beetle (88k miles, $3200). The seller says that the head gasket has just been replaced, and that the mechanic said the engine will make the knocking/clunking...

All nonsense in my book

Buy a vehicle not over 3 or 4 years old
& never over 30,000 miles & try to pay cash
& forget the collision insurance

That is the correct way to do it

Of coarse i have been at this 47 years
& can do my own repairs & money isn't
an issue

Dont have a problem yet. want to avoid problems. need to know what to do fro service. have 124000 miles on 2.0 jetta and never had anything but oil changed and oil filter.

Very nice to know that somebody care of his car.I understood that this is 1.9 TDI JETTA in124000 miles. To avoid problems in the future you have to change gearbox oil by recommended from a manufacturer.Second-Check all wheel bearings/rear ones/ for noise. Also make suspension test. any way you have to visit vw workshop for full diagnostic of the JETTA

2000 Jetta won't start

you may have seized the bearings!!!
let it kool down & disconnect battery then try to turn motor by hand & if it moves ok then you may be lucky !
but id get it pulled down & inspected as its likely to do it again! with dire consequences

2004 jetta - clicking noise left side of engine compartment. Car runs fine, starts fine. Belt problem?122,000 miles original parts.

Could be sepentine or timing belt.
More than likely a tensioner for serp belt or timing belt. It could also be the pulley for the alternator - a pretty common problem for VW's.

is the check engine lite on when it is running? Have a garage that has vag com drive the car with it hooked up and record the data stream. It can show you what happens that makes the car die.

engine is pinking, predetonation of fuel or the fuel mixture is weak which can be caused by a vacumn leak on the inlet manifold ,such as the take off for the servo ,or the manifold bolts loose. Also the timing is set wrong which could be a fault with sensor or the sensor drive ring .Without the car in front of me i cannot really diagnose a fault like this ,either get the VW mechanic to have a look and if he thinks its electronic then take it to VW
