Inside the gas tank. remove the tank, change the pump, put the tank back in. On the off chance there is a service port in the trunk, pull out the carpet in the trunk and see if there is a panel allowing you access to the top of the gas tank. get a repair manual on eBay for specific instructions

Thank you so much how come there's so much difference in the price of a fuel pump on online or at the parts store loc 240 bucks and I get them online for $78 how come

Buy the best quality fuel pump you can that is the correct fitment for your car. Do some research on the manufacturer first and if you cannot get this information don't buy that branded pump. Most cheap part ebay sellers won't tell you the manufacturer of their products or the product is not even branded. You don't want to be installing a B grade fuel pump in your car and people that do this end up with premature failures.

Find loc. of inline fuel filter

It is in the fuel tank with the pump. Requires tank removal to replace (about 4 hours!). Not a normal required item for this unit unless you have contaminated tank and fuel which would be bad news.

2001 Chevy Malibu the car cranks but wont start I can hear the whine of the fuel pump coming on when I engage the ignition switch to on position, I can prime it and it will run for a few seconds...

sounds like a security problem-if the light is flashing leave the key turned on for about 10 min. until light stops flashing and then try to start engine-if this works you need to replace the pass loc sensor(ignition cylinder and housing)

Where is the fuel pump

The fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank. You will have to pull the tank, so get out any esscess fuel you can. Undo the battery, red cable first, Jack up the rear of the car and support it on jack stands high enough to pull the tank down and out the rear. Disconect any rubber hangers at the rear of the exhaust. Disconect the filler hoses from the tank. Disconect the fuel lines, you may have to have a special tool to dosconect the fuel lines, ck at your local parts store for any you may need. Support the tank with a floor jack and remove the retaining bolts/straps. Lower the tank and disconect any wiring from the sending/pump location. Pull the tank down and out the rear. The fuel pump is held in with a loc-ring, you can use a screw driver to turn half way to remove, then the assy. will come out. this is a 2 person job on the ground, and be careful.

2001 Oldsmobile Alero won't start.

be careful on this problem, this car has a problem on the pas-loc security system,go to www.carcomplaints.com type in 2001 alero wont start.i have this same year our daughter drives.please go and check this sight out .this is not a bad fuel pump. the sec.system is flawed.it thinks the car is being stolen so it is giving a false code which is causing the fuel pump to shut down.this is a problem that gm knew about,if you have a owners man.on this car, look up the pas loc system in it.they tell you how to override it.i hav been dealing with this for years snd may have a fix that will cost nothing..

Where is the fuel pump relay on a 93 Buick Skylark Custom located? Its a 3.3 V-6 sedan.

3.1 or 3.4 theres no 3.3 in a Buick, Chysler products , no GM next to the battery in the fuse relay panel theres both the relay and the fuse that powers the relay. The pumps fail more often thogh. find the relay remore it and change it with a different relay like the high beam and see if it'll run the relays do fail but if they do the cause is most often the pump drawing too much, Some times cranking the engine and pounding on the tank can ( wake-up ) the failing fuel pump but even if it starts the pump will do it again and it's truly bad. It may stop or not start next time stop on the road and not restart. Or could work awhile if you find the fuel filter dirty and a neww one releives the extra load on the pump.
