Question about 1995 Dodge Caravan

1995 dodge caravan

I want to recharge the ac of my 1995 dodge caravan with a R134A but I don't know where the low port is? I have the complete kit of refrigerant bought from Walmart. It's supposed to be compatible with the low port which is close to the front hood (as far as I know like my ford contour). But it won't fit. Do I need an adapter? Is the low port for the caravan at the front too? Please help.

Thanks

Irwin

YOUR LOW PORT IS AT THE FIRE WALL NEXT TO THE WINSHIELD AREA ON THE PASSENGER SIDE.

Where is the lowside port dodge charger 5.7 hemi 2007 to recharge my a/c

look for a port on the aluminum ac pipes on the driver's side of the engine compartment next to the suspension tower. Port might be on the underside of one of the pipes, marked with L.
Usually on modern cars the ports are pretty fail safe...you can't hook up to the high side with a standard DIY R134A recharger/kit.

Im trying to recharge my ac in my 91 nissan pickup and im pretty sure i know where the lowside ac port is but the hose adapter from my recharge kit does not fit snugly on the fitting?

Your 1991 will have R12 refrigerant in it unless it has been retrofitted to the newer R134a refrigerant. If it is still factory original then you will need to retrofit it to the new refrigerant, or see if you can find some R12. R12 has been discontinued years ago and if you can find it it is very expensive.

What type of refrig. does the AC use in a 92 dodge caravan

Unless the labels are missing from the car, it will state which type of refrigerant is used. Could be either R12 or R134a. If originally R12, it could have been replaced by R134a with an upgrade kit. The easiest way to tell if the labels are missing, is to look at the valves on the AC system. If they are Schrader valves (same as used on tires), then it is the older R12. If the caps are Red (high pressure side) and blue (low pressure side), then it is R134a. The sale of R12 to non-certified mechanics is illegal in all states as far as I am aware. R134a is available in most states and retro-fit kits are available in most states.

I have done the retro-fit on 2 vehicles with acceptable results. It is recommended to remove all the old R12 with a vacuum pump. Autozone (in my area anyway) rents these.

Good luck if you need and decide to retro-fit yourself.

How do I charge the ac on my dodge caravan

Go to a department store and get the recharge system (can and hose) of 134a refrigerant. You will connect it to the port under the hood. The port is on one of the lines coming from your AC compressor. The kit's connection port will only hook to the correct input port because of the size. The can will also have a diagram on it.

Want to add refrigerant. air conditioner not very cool. which is low pressure port for adding r134a coolant?

The newer cars have 2 ports. The large port which is the high side and small port, low side. The kit you buy to refill the air cond will fit only one of the ports and that's the small port. You don't want to hook up on the high side so, this is why ports are sized and the gauge will only fit one. The low side should be near the evaporator or on the evaporator.

How do you connect a/c charger to make your central air cooler

The 1998 Dodge Caravan ac should be charged at the low pressure service port. This port is located on the suction line near the compressor. The suction line can be identified by it's size, it being the larger of the two line connected to the compressor. You must purchase a recharge kit at your local part store, which should include charging hose with pressure gauge and a can of R134a freon. Gloves and eye protection should be worn during servicing.(freon can freeze your eyes and cause frost bite to your hands). Connect freon to charging hose, connect charging hose to low pressure service port, open valves and start engine, turn on ac. If compressor won't start it may be required to disconnect the low pressure switch and jump out the connector.

Ac compressor clutch does not engage

to prevent damage to the air conditioning system there is a "low pressure switch" located on the condenser near the low pressure hose (large one) .. if the refrigerrant (R134A) gets too low then the clutch will be blocked from activating by that switch .. you can have your system tested and recharged or you can do that yourself .. the R134A is available at auto parts stores .. some come with a gague that is required for proper charge .. if you dont already have a gage then yoiu will need that one ... recharge kits often come with instructions .. other less likely but possible problems could be a fuse or bad AC clutch relay. sometimes damaged wiring or bad clutch will be the problem but much more likely just low fluid ..

1997 Dodge Caravan puts out warm air

Your car uses R-134A, readily available at most auto parts stores. Best bet is to get a refill kit that includes the refill hose (get one with a pressure gauge attached if possible to ensure you don't overfill the system). Recharging is pretty straight forward. Turn the car on with the AC on HIGH, locate the low side AC line (will have a screw on cap). Attach the refrigerant to the hose but don't puncture the can until the other end of the hose is attached to the low side valve. Once both ends are attached, turn the screw on the hose to puncture the can of refrigerant; the car should suction the refrigerant out of the can. Disconnect the hose when the can's empty and check the vents on the AC. If its cold and frost develops on the AC lines under the hood, you're good to go. Best of luck and post back with any questions.

AC booster recharge hook-up

You can only attach the the recharge hose from the kit to the low side ( A/C service port) and the cap should be blue with a leter L on it. Good luck and follow the instruction and don't over charge the system. With the AC on the coldest setting, use a thermometer in a middle vent. Normal vent temperature readings will vary depending on the (ambient) outside temp. The vent temperature should range from around 42-55 degrees in my experience. If normal gauge readings are obtained and the vent air is cold - STOP don’t overcharge the system. The only proper way to remove refrigerant is with a AC recovery machine so if this is being done at home I can’t emphasize enough not to over charge the system. And actually the best way to insure the proper charge is in a system, is to use an AC machine to recover the R134a and then evacuate and recharge the system with the correct amount. Most cars have the specified amount on a decal under the hood.  Good luck and hope this helps.
