Question about 2000 Cadillac Catera

1 Answer

Car keeps shutting off

I have a 2000 cadillac catera 110000 miles.
the check engine light came on like 2 months ago.the codes were for the oxygen sensors. i changed all four of them but the light came back on after about 2 weeks. then the mechanic checked the codes again and determined i needed a new catalytic converter. i changed both converters, left and right side but a few days before the converter was changed, the car eould just shut off after about 15 minutes of driving.now it wasn't just while idling,it was actually while the car was in motion. it would start back after letting the car sit for about an hour.during the 15 minutes of drive time though,it would run just fine.no stalling or jerking.

i changed the converters, same thing. changed the fuel filter, relay fuel pump and it still goes off after 15 minutes. i am beginning to lose faith in the mechanic i use because these parts cost a lot and so far it seems like they keep making me spend money i may not need to be spending.

altogether, repairs done so far are all 4 oxygen sensors, both catalytic converters, an entirel new fuel system save for the fuel tank but the car still shuts off.

check engine light is off now though but if the car only runs for 15 mniutes max, maybe it just hasn't had enough time to trigger of the codes. i am frustrated.

so far i have spent close to $4000 in repairs but the car is still not fixed.
anybody,somebody please help!!!!!!

    finally solved the problem.

it turns out it was the catlytic converter sensor. it only costs about 48 bucks when purchased from the dealers and you can get it online for about 30 bucks at other sites.

the sad part though is i had to take it to the dealers to diagnose and it cost about $600 to put a $48 part in.

F.Y.I If you experience similar problems like i did and your mechanic thinks its fuel delivery related, have them loosen the injector a bit while the engine is running.if a little bit of gas spurts out while this is done, then there is probably nothing wrong with your fuel delivery system.

do not attempt to do this yourself though.

How to fix P0335 and P0727 error codes for Cadillac Catera 2000?

P0335 is a code for a faulty crank angle sensor. When this sensor starts going bad, usually the car will not start till it cools down, may cause rough running or no start at all. P0727 is a communication error between the engine control module and the transmission control module. Check for any bad connections between both modules.

How many miles do I have left when the gas light starts blinking on a cadillac catera 2000

You have about 3 gallons in the tank, so that menas about 50 miles is safe. Never run this car out of gas, you will damage the electric fuel pump inside the gas tank, low fuel/no fuel overheats the pump because the gasoline cools it while it is running.

CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL FIRST.A FAULTY TORQUE CONVERTER WILL KEEP CAR FROM CRANKING IF TORQUE CONVERTER REMAINS LOCKED UP.CHECK BRAKES LIGHTS TO SEE IF BRAKE LIGHTS WORKING.BECAUSE WHEN YOU APPLY BRAKES THE TORQUE CONVERTER SUPPOSE TO UNLOCK.IF BRAKE LIGHTS WORK, HAVE CAR CODE SCAN TO SEE WHAT TRANSMISSION CODE YOU ARE GETTING.

My 2000 cadillac catera check engine light is on and the tc light is on and it idle's low

What have you done so far. I would start with looking at the cars repair/maintenance history. Have the codes read (might be helpful). Could be anything, depending in what direction you need to go you might want to check for cyl. miss-fires, bad coil, IAC, fuel pressure, clogged CAT. CMP sensor. Let me know if I can help anymore.

Engine shuts down on deceleration

Well 145K is alot of miles, catera's are not that reliable especially after 100K. It sounds like you could have multiple issues but take it to a mechanic asap before it becomes unfixable.

Transmission shifting problems

You need to have it checked out by a mechanic as soon as possible, I drive a 2000 cadillac catera and it began to have the same problems about 4 months ago but last month my sport mode button began to blink which means a transmission problem. So when i had it looked at they said my 3rd gear was almost completely burnt out and it cost $2,000 to fix. The cause was a broken piece of the transmission was failing and it had to be completely rebuilt. Good luck!!
