No power to left rear turn/ brake light


Check the display. Ask a helper to step on the brake pedal while you check the lights from the rear. If no lights appear, check the fuse that connects the brake lights. The owners manual will show the location of the fuse box and which fuse is for the brake lights. Pull out the fuse and look at the wire in the central window. If the wire is broken, replace the fuse. Make sure the new fuse is not blown, and carries the same amperage.
Take note of lights that are out, if any are working. The problem may be cured by replacing the bulb in a brake light that's out. A burned out bulb has a broken filament and a dark brown spot on one side. Check the owners manual for bulb type.
Check the circuit if replacement bulbs and fuses do not restore the lights. Find the wiring diagram in the vehicle assembly manual. The circuit for the brake lights runs from the battery to the fuse, to the pedal switch, to a connection plug, to the lights. The circuit has to be checked with a volt tester at all points.
Check the battery power and the light on your volt tester. Turn the ignition key far enough to activate the electrical systems. Turn on the lights to check for battery power. If the battery has power, ues it to check the volt tester. Put the black lead (the ground) from the volt tester on the negative battery terminal. Briefly touch the red tester light on the positive terminal. The light on the volt tester should flash brightly.
Test the wiring to the fuse. Clip the ground wire to solid metal near the fuse. Touch the light tip to both sides of the fuse. Both should light the tester. If neither side lights, the wire between the battery and fuse is bad. If only one side lights, the fuse is blown.
Test the switch and wiring. Touch the light tip of the tester to both terminals on the brake pedal switch without putting any pressure on the pedal. One should carry power and the other should not. When both show power, the switch is stuck and the brake lights are always on. If neither shows power, the wiring between the fuse and the switch is bad. Now check both switch terminals while the pedal is depressed. Both sides should light the tester. If not, the switch is bad.
Check the connection plug. Unplug the connection and refer to the vehicle manual to identify the brake light wire. Touch the tester light on the brake light wire at the inner socket on the battery side. If the tester lights, the power is flowing to this point. If not, the wire between the plug and the pedal switch is bad.
Check the socket. Plug in the connector plug and remove the bulb. Touch the contact inside the socket. If the tester lights, the socket is good. The socket and wire running to the plug should be replaced if the tester doesn't light.
Check the bulb with the ground wire. The bulb must be in its socket. The ground wire running to the socket should be black or brown. Stab the tester through the insulation. If the tester lights, the bulb is good. Replace the bulb if it doesn't light.
Check the ground wire. Remove some of the insulation around the ground wire. Twist one end of the extra wire around the exposed ground wire. Touch the other end to a solid piece of metal. If the brake light comes on, the ground wire is bad.

How to trouble shoot no brakelights?


Well first you go to the fuse box and find stop light see if it has blown if not go to the rear and remove the globe holder plug assy which has either double or single light bulb if double get test light and touch either wire and get someone to turn on the ign switch [on but not start] and also put foot on the brake pedal ,if the test light dont light test the other wire base ,if no light comes on then go to the stop light switch mostly on the brakeline connection box under the bonnet or it could have a brake switch in the cab above the brake pedal and that will have either a broken wire or switch unserviceable .

Since the turns work in the back, that means the brake bulbs are good. Brake lights and turn signal lights share the same filament in the bulb.
There is a fuse for the brake lights. Then, there is a brake light switch on the brake pedal. You need a voltmeter or test light, after checking that fuse is good. Need to check if fuse has power on it. This is one of those fuses that are hot at all times-as long as battery is connected, voltage should be going through the fuse and up to the brake light switch. Check for power both places. The switch on the pedal is a simple on-off switch. When brake is depressed, the spring loaded switch is turned on-passing power on towards the brake lights.
But then the brake wire goes into the turn signal switch before going on to the brake bulbs...however, since your turns work good, I doubt if there is a problem in the turn switch. First check if the brake light switch is sending power on when switch is on.

My running lights work my turn signals work why don't my brake lights


You either have a bad brake light switch or a bad fuse that powers your brake lights. Go to your fuse panel and check the fuse first. If it checks good then check the brake light switch. The switch will be located on the brake pedal at the top. There should be two wires into the switch. One will have power at all times. as you depress the brake pedal it makes the connection in the switch to the other wire which then sends power to the brake lights and illuminates the bulbs. Use an electrical tester to make sure you have power in and power out when the brake pedal is depressed.

I have a 91 ford f150 and the brake lights wont work and the rear right blinker is dim. Can you help me?


Check System Fuse - A fuse is used to protect the brake light circuit from amperage overload. If the fuse has failed it will not allow the electrical current to continue to the brake lights. To check the fuse, first locate the brake light system fuse in the fuse panel which is either under the dash or under the hood in the power distribution center. Connect the test light to a ground like an engine or dash bracket and turn the ignition key to the "on" position. Using the test light probe both sides of the fuse. If the test light illuminates on both sides the fuse is okay continue onto the next step. If one side of the fuse illuminates the fuse has failed and needs to be replaced. If the fuse fails as soon as it is replaced or when you apply the brake pedal the brake light electrical circuit is shorted to ground. Rarely a system short can occur, a car repair manual is needed to find the wiring schematic for the brake light circuit. Once the brake light wiring has been located inspect and repair as needed.

Check Brake Light Bulbs - All cars have three brake light bulbs that create the brake light illumination affect. If all of these brake light bulbs fail no brake light operation will occur. I know what you're thinking, you might say all three brake lights at once? But in reality one brake light went out at a time and you did not notice. Remove any of the brake light bulbs to confirm the bulb is okay or burned. After the bulb has been removed inspect the filament and replace if failed. If the brake light bulbs are okay continue to the next step.

Right brake light does not work when press the pedal but all 3 bulbs light up when locking or unlocking car so to me bulbs are good is this a fuse?


If it were a fuse issue, neither brake light would work.

The alarm may be connected to running lights and not the brake light, I'd simply swap bulbs lft to right, if the problem follows, new bulbs before worrying about chasing wiring problems.

Brake lights don't work, Bulbs, brake switch and fuses were checked but brake lights still don't work


Check the brake light switch, it's under the dash near the top and on the back side of the brake pedal, press brake pedal down and see if that button pops out, if it doesn't tap on it, it should pop, if it does pop out and you still don't have lights, the switch is bad.
