Question about 2001 Chevrolet Malibu

1 Answer

I have a 2001 Chevy Malibu and it has a theft System light on in my dash board. My radio is also locked and I was wondering if all of these electronic problems would also cause my air conditioner to stop blowing cold air.

I found on the internet a way to disable the theft system by cutting a wire and put a switch in to open or close it.
when you close it everything is still the same, that is sometimes needed (after replacing a battery as article said).
That all for being able to put in an after market remote starter
The funny part was in my case that after putting the switch in, I closed it, so theoretically nothing changed, but since then I never had a theft system lock up and closed switch leaves theft system still in order. My best theory is that I changed the resistance a bit in the circuit into a better margin....?
At the moment with everything else working I also have heating fan problems and after removing it (easier then anticipated, under dash passenger side) it worked again I think corroded contacts(car is leaking a bit with heavy rain) although I have not figured out yet why position 5 (highest) doe not work.
Ussually the switch itself gets defects and some positions dont work anymore but 5 should be straight but I am not sure about that yet.
I never had radio locked up, but I also never changed or fooled with the radio there is some theft protection build into the radio as well (computer has to recognise it I presume) that can be a source of problems at the same time of course

Have your Check Engine Light scanned at Autozone or Advanced Auto Parts for free. For the Blower Switch, you either have a bad switch or motor/resistor.

Did you Take the radio out of the car. Sounds like you pulled the theft wire apart that goes to the
ignition switch. If this happens the starter and the fuel are disabled preventing the car from starting.
If everything looks ok I suggest calling a radio tech guy or pull the radio out to take in for repair.
I know these radio's are sensitve and have theft lock in them also.

My theft system keeps activating and thus disabling the my 2003 Malibu for 10 minutes while I wait to reset. Can this be solved or is there a way to disable the system?

cant be disabled. I would have the dealer or a good repair shop diagnose and recommend repairs. Could be key or the lock cylinder/ sensor problem

Hi I own A 98 Chevy Malibu, my ignition locked n i had to put a new ignition switch in, well now my cars tellin me Something Theft Service. Im wonder what I need to do? Iv unhooked battery for hours ect...

You need to reset the theft system. To do this, try to start it. It should start and die. Then after it dies and the theft light is flashing, leave the key on for 10 minutes. After 10 min, the theft light should go out. After the theft light goes out, turn off the key. Count to 5, then restart it. Then it should work.

2001 chevy impala security light keeps coming on

This is a problem with chevy vehicles that have the system theft light. after a couple of years of using the key, the lock tumblers inside the ignition switch tend to wear out and so causing the system to think it's being stolen. Now you have to put the key in and turn the ignition to the on position, without cranking the car and leave it for 10 minutes until the theft light goes out. Very annoying especially if you're in a hurry. The dealer cost to repair the ignition switch goes for about $600-$800. that includes re-teaching the key.

Dont know how to reset or bypass gm theft system car is not starting .It tries and quits.

this is one way to reset it :
first make sure the battery is fully charged , then do the following:
key in the ignition but do not crank the motor, just leave it at the
ignition mode for ten minutes ,then turn it off POSITION for 5 seconds then REPEAT again 2 more times. at the 3 rd time youre gonna notice the ANTI THEFT light on dash to blink. when doing the last step , remove key , inserted again and turn on motor , good luck , AJ

My 2001 chevy malibu ls v6cranks,starts up but right after, right after dies like somethings shutting it down. radio was locked from me disconnecting my battery without disconnecting the anti theft system....

Is the Security light flashing??? If so, the security system (passlock II) is ******** off the fuel because the car thinks it is being stolen. If the security light is flashing, leave the key in the "on" position for about 10 minutes and it will stop flashing. Then turn the car off and try to start like you normally would.
