Question about 1991 Toyota Pickup

Flutter type noise when truck gets warmed up

I have a 1989 Toyota Pickup, xtend-cab, 6 cylinder, engine is 3VZ-E, with 117,800 miles, solid, doesn't burn oil, but, when I drive around and it gets warm, there is a flutter type sound, it occurs as I am accelerating, and stops when I get to certain rpm and am a constant speed. I wonder if I need valve lash adjustment?

If you have not adjusted the valves that would be a good place to start, 117,000 is not high miles for your engine, but valve lash should be done every 60,000 at least.

What problem could I Be having on my 2001 Toyota Ipsum 2AZE engine, I Just woke up to find a knocking sound on top of the cylider head with smoke that clears as the engine warms up, the sound equally

2az-fe right?
no mileage stated,, is he cam chain making noise, ignored?
get it serviced?
or buy the tools and do the tests DIY.
which choice? only 2.
  • 2000 - 2.4 L (2362 cc) 2AZ
smoke is a bad sign, on low mileage engines say below 250,000 miles and with noise worst. there must be no noise, on this engine.
no HLA's to rattle there. has solid bucket tappets.
then mean they never make noise unless, its damaged or lacking oil.
are you doing silly SYN oil changes it 25,000 miles or at 5 to 7k miles.?
id do a cylinder leak down test. by hand to protect engine from
further damage, (I do that on all DOHC engines (savvy i am)

How do I set timing for my 1990 toyota pickup 2wd space cab v6 3,0 engine.?

Fig. Fig. 1: 3VZ-E Engine. Firing order-1-2-3-4-5-6. Distributor rotation: counterclockwise ,start by finding timing mark on crank shaft and rotate motor to timing indecater on motor ( to check if that is #1 at top dead center remove spark plug, piston should be at top of cylinder, use a soft object to feel piston come up you need 2 people to do this ,1 to turn motor over by hand and 1 to feel for piston rising now open dist. cap and note location of rotor pointing to #1 ignition wire or that will be now #1 and follow firing order ,if you go to auto zone and create an account (its free) you can get info on timing a motor and cylinder position .I REALLY hope this helped you .if it did let me know.thanks .

check the width of the chassis rails for starters . If the same width then check the cab mount distances . With 9 years between chassis I would think that the chassis will be different

About how much is a 1986 toyota pickup 4x4 worth

Depends on milage, and condition. I got an '89 short box, regular cab, 4 cylinder with NO rust at all, but over 200,000 miles. I paid just over three thousand, as the odometer read that it had 84,000 miles on it. So I got a raw deal there, but the truck is clean, so I rebuilt the entire drive line, engine, transmission, rear end, transfercase, and on. Now I have a rust free solid good running truck for under seven thousand, that runs like new. But...I do have a lot of time in it.
I love the truck, they are well built, just prone to rust.

your fuel injectors are worn out maybe. now and days they fixed this problem to withstand cold conditions but not in the 1990s.
