Question about 2000 Mitsubishi Galant
This is one of 2 faults common with this car.
Either the EGR valve "exhaust gas recycler" or the air mass sensor also known as the MAF sensor.
I would bet on it being the EGR as the engine light is on, you can remove this and clean it, that often does the trick. also you can clean the air mass sensor, certainly worth a go as these can be expensive parts. the air mass is pretty chep but the EGR can be a few hundred dollars.
Hope this helps
