You shouldn't have to reset immobilizer. And your car CAN be towed, if done correctly. It can be towed from the rear. The preferable way is aboard a flat bed.

If you have code, enter that in OBC (on board computer) and that will override immobilizer

Car won't start Auto Theft Reset

Disconnect the battery and leave it for 30 minutes. This dissipates any power in the system and resets the immobiliser and the ECM.

On turning the ignition key the engine just clicks and doesnt fire! dash lights are on as normal

Could be as simple as a corroded post(s) on your battery. It would get enough current thru to light the dash, but not enough to engage the solenoid of the starter. Try cleaning the connections with a wire brush and then re-installing, making sure the connections are snug.

If it still acts up, see if you can jump it and take it to a auto parts store for a battery check. Most will provide this service for free.

If the battery checks out OK, you likely have a bad solenoid on the starter.

Good luck!

Bmw 523 petrol, immobiliser problem is there a way round this nightmare?,turns over wont start, its an auto cant even push out of the way,

Hi

There is one method you ca try, first ensure the car is unlocked but with the keys out of the car. then disconnect the battery for about 2hrs, overnight if possible. this should reset the car immobiliser and ECU. When putting the battery back on connect the red first then the black i that order.

If no joy get back to me I have a few oher solutions.

Regards and happy new year

I have a 97 528i BMW recently Ive been having problems starting it . When I turn the key it will try to start but wont actually turn over. I have a new battery so Im thinkin its the starter maybe??

It is most likely the immobiliser rather than starter if it does try to start, is it automatic or manual gearbox? If automatic, than try to take the negative cable of the battery and leave for 15-20 minutes without connection, than switch lights on before reconnecting the negative, this resets the computer so it might help. If it is manual, try a push start if the car starts and runs than it is the starter problem, if not than it will be immobiliser problem.

BMW 325xi; 160k; check engine light on-->next day, wont start!

I would try to jump it to see if the starter engages and the engine runs, if it does you have a connection problem between the engine starter and the battery, if it does the same thing with cables then you will probably have to tow it in to the shop. I do not think your problem is related to cold weather, but it could very well be related to the check engine light. Exactly what the check engine light is on for I can not say with out a code, but I agree with your thinking about taking it to the shop. Hope this helps, let me know.
