Question about Volkswagen Golf

1 Answer

We have a Golf TDI 2005 - bought in New Zealand. The car has had two episodes of having a loud 'spronging' noise start, then stop. It sounds like like something repeatedly banging on a hollow pipe while the car is moving. It sounds as though it is coming from a rear wheel and started when we went over a bump, then stopped when we went over some railway lines. The banging is loud inside and outside of the car, and it repeatedly 'bangs' and the car drives along - in forward and in reverse. The service people just looked at me when I took it there and tried to explain.

Think you have a shock absorber problem ,they can break inside well not exactly break but a valve sticks causing the vehicle to bounce more which you didnt notice but no doubt it happened then when bounced on the level crossing it freed itself again .Very rare but i have seen it before ,took ages to diagnose

Loud noise from engine bay on start up. it continues when the car is running. the only way to describe it is it sounds like a whosing noise

I don't know what whosing sounds like, but I have a high pitched whirring noise coming from my somewhere in the engine bay, my noise starts when the car starts and continues while driving, goes away at around 60 mph but will come back when I accelerate or decelerate, I have a friend that is a master tech at volkswagen, he suspects the alternator is making the noise, this is my first TDI, I bought it with 150k on it, I don't have any experience with TDI's, but am a Service Advisor, and it has been my general experience that all volkswagens are posessed! :) Always having some sort of electrical issue, Not sure if that will help.... Good Luck!

Loud rattling noise coming from the engine

Are you losing power as well? if so it sounds like the camshaft is worn, this can be confirmed with a compression test

96 Golf 2.0GTI 8v knocking noise from rear when accelerating

its probably your bump stops. the vw ones are very soft. i bought ford escort (the shape after the xr3) ones and cut them a little down to fit. i think the noise is either your shock touching or the sound of the tire scraping the body of the car. hope this helps.
