Maybe the ignition module or the crank sensor is faulty

Will not stay running

Time for a tune up if it sounds like it's running on 3 cylinders - misfiring.

Mine, 2001 Alero, ran great one day and I could not get it out of the garage the next. This is easy stuff, right on top of the engine. I'm a girl and with a little guy friend help - got it done. Here is how I solved the issue:

I would suggest this order of operations to address the issue unless you just want a once and done solution of purchasing everything. 2) Remove spark plugs, clean or replace. Purchase 4 plug on coil boots and install. Button the car back up and try to turn it on. 2) If that does not work, buy the ignition coil housing. Put the new boots and old coils in the new housing. Button car back up and try to run. The housing seems to be key to fixing the issue. And while I don't have testing to support it, I believe the new springs (coils) that come packaged with the housing are what makes this work. They have more tension then the old ones and cause the ignition coil packs to 'float' a bit where they are seated. I guess this because I could not find any damage to my old housing. 3) If that does not work a cylinder or two may have become crapped up and frozen due to the backfiring. Marvel Miracle oil or similar, if placed in the cylinder (an ounce or two) via the spark plug orifice, left to soak a few hours, then buttoned up and turned on, may free the pistons. Expect a lot of smoke while clearing the pistons. 4) Test the ignition module and replace if bad - this is the most expensive component and not returnable. Have the new one tested too before you walk out the door with it. Mine runs! Good luck with yours.

My 88 plymouth reliant has just stopped working. I have changed the spark plugs, wires, fuel pump, and fuel pump relay. i've also changed the fuel filter twice now. i've checked to see if it has spark and...

Check the ignition timing is correct. I see that you have changed the wires so I suggest that you recheck the firing order for the plugs as it is easy to get it wrong when replacing the leads.

Need firing order for 2004 vw polo 1.6. also which terminal is#1 on the coil pack

1,3,4,2 on all 4 banger,unless boxer engines
ah, didng change them 1 by one, you bad boy.
ok most coil packs are marked. (wasted spark)
did you look at both,? old and new for marks

2 coils ,1 back and 1 coil runs 2 cylinders wasting spark
on exhaust stroke.

alldata.com, log in (did you Google this first)
or go to rockauto.com see all packs zoom in and luck out
and see the marks?
Nah, just looked, not there

fist google hit lands on fixya
http://www.fixya.com/cars/t20217864-need_correct_firing_order_volkswagen

but id not trust that but you could just guess
its just 4 wires.
after all 2 ways works, (will run if coil is backwards)

try 1 and 4 on one end
the 1 and 4 on other end. see my drift

1 fires on compression TDC
while 4 fires at exhuast TDC (called wasted spark)
then put the other 2 wires in any order
it will start.

if serious, alldata.com had the answer every time.
one stop and bingo.

the plugs are gang fired, in pairs. is the trick here.
