Question about 1988 Cadillac Sedan DeVille

1 Answer

The heater in my 1988 Cadillac Sedanville is not working, also, after running the car and then leaving it sit while running it started to smoke out from under the hood. The smoke was just steam from the engine coolent. The car information center did not say that it was over heating, and the coolent is leaking out. The coolent is not gettin to the motor to circulate so until the new thermostat comes in, do I need to take the old one off since I am going to have to run it even tho the car was not over heating or could it just be that it is leaking and streaming from the water gettin on the hot parts?

Most likely have a coolant leak somewhere. Could be the radiator, hoses, coolant reservoir, water pump. Get it resolved asap, wouldn't want to pull over to have your car rolling in it's coolant..

DTC P0147 HO2S Heater Performance Bank 1 Sensor 3
DTC P0340 IC Module Cam Reference CKT No Frequency
DTC P0401 Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Flow Insufficient
P0441 has nothing to do with the gas cap !

P0441 & P1441 will be back , may take a day or two , but will be back because gas cap has nothing to do with it .

Honestly , you should take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop !

2000 Cadillac DeVille running rich city exhaust engine runs great uses boil it but doesn't burn have a blue oil leaves white smoke what could be the problem with it?

Running rich burns black smoke.

Burning oil, burns blue smoke.

Burning white smoke is steam and can be indicative of a damaged head gasket, or just weather conditions. Fuel contains water at molecular level.

Have a 1988 ford taurus and smoke is coming in from the defroster vents.

Hey! Ahhh this is always fun. Generally what I have found to be the problem here is this: In your heater/AC box is the heater core. Usually in older models there is a twin coil to help the defoster heat up faster. This box will accumulate leaves trash and other things. when teh defroster or heater is on the coils come on heating up and start to smolder the leaves and stuff.

If it is blue smoke, it is oil burning. If it only smokes after sitting, then it is a leaking valve guide(s). If it smokes randomly while running, you have leaking oil control piston ring(s). If the smoke is very heavy and white, that is coolant and your head gasket is the problem.

What does a heater core do?

The heater core runs off of the cooling system, it is a small "radiator" behind the dash that sits in a box. when the heater core is full of hot coolant, it gives off heat and the blower motor pushes the hot air to the vents.

If a heater core ruptures, becomes clogged with parasites, or gets blocked in a hose (the 2 leading to the firewall under the hood on the passenger side) it causes the car to overheat, and/or leak.

my suggestion is to have the system pressure tested, and flushed if it checks out OK
