1992 buick lesabre runs then dies

Runs 3- 5 min then dies wont restart for awhile then does same thing

Our 1992 Le Saber has always been very reliable. Lately it stalled and would only restart after it sat for awhile. The mechanic we drove it to was unable to find anything wrong with it. The next time we used it, it would not start after being parked while doing some shopping. It turns over well. It started when the tow truck arrived and we were able to drive it home. Yesterday I test drove it. Again it died on me but this time it started right up and I was able to drive it back home.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

This can be one of several things from my experience or something I have no idea about, but easiest thing to check first.

Have you checked your battery cable? Best way to know if this is the problem is having someone jiggling the connection a bit while trying to start it. I had my starter changed which they have to unhook the battery for and they didn't tighten it up enough and it worked itself loose. My car which is same as yours was doing the same thing. I had to keep jiggling the connection and driving 2 minutes, stopping in middle of road and do it again all the way to get back to them cuz I didn't have the tools to tighten it.

If its not the battery, it may very well be your starter as I had pretty much the same reaction where it would die and I would have to get a jump or wait to be able to restart. which is why I had to change that in the first place. I could run it for a few minutes then it would die and I couldn't for a bit then I could later, or could if I got a jump start.

Then, there's the battery itself that could be bad. You can have that tested at any AutoZone or Advanced Auto Parts for free. Your battery may be going bad, they can tell you if it is. If you have a warranty on it then would be an easy enough thing to fix.

Last suggestion, which I pray its not. The alternator is going bad and draining the battery. If it doesn't get fixed soon and your battery isn't messed up enough from trying to make it run, it will soon ruin your battery too. But it is the most expensive out of those to deal with.

92 buick lesabre 3.8 quits restarts after 20 min

Sounds like you may have a bad ignition control module or pick up coil. Also check for fuel, when it quits.

My 1997 buick lesabre runs for awhile then dies. let it set for awhile and it will start back up.

While it is acting up check for spark at the spark plugs. You want to do this after it dies and will not start. If spark is good then check fuel pressure. The fuel pressure should be 48-55 psi with the key on and engine off.Let me know what you find Good luck.

Codes 17 and 41 even after cam replacement

Check and make sure your battery cables are clean and tight. You may want to check your ground wires inside the car, under the carpet. I had a bad ground under there.
