Try and lubricate the latch using a teflon or silicone based lubrication. also there is a chance that the latch alignment is off, ( check to make sure that fasteners on the latch itself are tight ). re-align and adjust the latch as needed.

My door stopped latching. Is this something that can be repaired?

Yes of course it can be repaired, but you need to remove the door panel to see what is causing the issue with the latch mechanism. Since you gave no model, make or year can't help much further.

Gas cap door won't spring open. Thanks for any help...

there is a broken spring / missing spring at the door hinge
it requires 2 people to get it open
one to keep the button pressed or cable pulled and the other to use fingers or maybe a flat bar of some sort to force the flap open
if you have the time it may be accessible from inside the boot behind the trim where you can undo some screws to free the latch mechanism so that the flap catch can come free of the latch tongue
springs are cheap and easily fitted as they break on a regular basis.

How can i open a hood laych that want let the hood cloes

Quite often the hood latch will not release for one of two reasons. Firstly, the latch is gummed up with old grease, and secondly the cable is kinked and does not release the latch. I is also possible that the latch is damaged, possibly at one time the hood was forced down at a slight angle which could damage the latch.
First, check the cable. Unhook the cable from the latch by pressing the latch back as far as possible with a tool and unhooking the cable. Let an assistant pull the hood release inside the vehicle and feel if the cable moves in freely and you can easily pull it back by hand. If not, replace the cable. Do NOT close the hood while you have the cable out!
Next, check the latch for free movement. If ally is well the only other problem is the bullet hook on the hood itself which may be either loose or adjusted in too far,

The latch on my drivers side door is stuck in the closed position. How can I get it to open so I can get my door to close. It can't close at all right now.

Does the door latch have a child safety lock feature? Check to make sure it wasn't accidentally activated, preventing the latch from opening.

Rear door will not open on my ford focus ghia t reg

Hi chance are the mechanism inside door jamming. Short of forcing off the inner panel in order to clean lubricate etc I find the best way to get this open is to get someone to keep activating your central locking open and shut while you simply keep trying the door handle at the same time and this can some times just catch the latch in just the right position to get the door open ( you dont need to forcefully be pulling on the handle as the latch will either simply click over on the fine spring latch mechanism or not force is not going to help).
Once and if you manage to get door open take off the inner door card panel and oil lubricate mechanism. rather than then shut door simply use a screw driver on latch to test and worth then working back and forth. If still jamming replace latch.

Frozen trunk lock

Sounds like the latch is sticking. Try spraying it with a lubricant like Liquid Wrench, or anything that will leave an oily residue on the latch parts. I've found that WD40 does not work well in the cold. When you get some oil into it, work the latch back and forth until it moves easily (ie. use a screwdriver to push the latch closed, then open it again with the key or the electric release from inside the car). You may have to lock & unlock multiple times.

If it does move easily, there could be a problem in the latch like broken or bent parts, or an unhinged return spring. The latch assembly is easily replaced from the inside by removing the bolts. Then you will need a new latch assembly from your local dealer or you can try your local scrap yard for the parts.

Did this help?

'99 Honda civic LX. The hood latch requires a lot of force to ope

What you should do is spray the latch with pb blaster,556,or wd40.Shut the hood and after a couple of times it should work better also do a visual inspection of the latch and make sure nothing is bent.
