Question about 2009 Jeep Liberty

3 Answers

I lost the owner's manual. I saw an tv program that said changing the oil every 3,000 miles may not be necessary and to check the owner's manual. What is the frequency reccomended for the 2009 Jeep Liberty?

Factory Jeep recs 7500 between oil changes but for safety sake I'd call your local dealer for clarification. The old "every 3k" rule is just an old safety distance based on old petroleum standards. Newer oils will go longer but to be on the safe side call the dealer.

You change the oil every 5000km (3000 mi). This matches with schedule "B" in the owners and service manuals.

You should use schedule "B" if you fall into one of the categories below (most of us do):

  • Day or night temperatures are below 0° C (32° F)
  • Stop and go driving
  • Extensive engine idling
  • Driving in dusty conditions
  • Short trips of less than 16 km (10 miles)
  • More than 50% of your driving is at sustained high speeds during hot weather, above 32° C (90° F)
  • Trailer towing
  • Taxi, police, or delivery service (commercial service)
  • Off-road or desert operation
  • Heavy loading

Note: If you change your own oil or receive the change oil notification you can reset it. To reset the oil change indicator system (after performing the scheduled maintenance) refer to the following procedure:
  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (Do not start the engine).
  2. Fully depress the accelerator pedal slowly three times within 10 seconds.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF/LOCK position.

If the indicator message illuminates when you start the vehicle, the oil change indicator system did not reset. If necessary repeat this procedure.

I think you are right. Contact a dealer and they will give you the precise exact answers you need and maybe even print the sheet with reservice requirements on it for you. They always try to earn new customers in service

What will I need to do a tune up?

The maintenance on modern cars is a lot different from years ago. Spark plugs are good for at least 50,000 miles. gas filters should be changed every 2 years. air filters checked and possibly changed once a year. Oil changes- minimum 3,000 to 5,000 miles. Read your owner's manual for recommendations. If you don't have a manual, the dealer can sometimes get you one.

When are you do for an oil change

The old standard, which I still go by is every 3,000 miles or 3 months whichever comes first. Some oil manufacturers say 6,000 miles. Best place to look if you are uncomfortable is your owner's manual. 3,000 miles is a good rule of thumb.

Recommended oil change mileage

You can more or less pick your number depending on how you use the truck.
Oil change shops will tell you 3,000 miles or 3 months, the general rule today is 5,000 miles or 6 months, and your owners manual probably says something else.
It should be changed at least once a year if you don't drive it much, or more than every 5,000 miles if you drive it hard or use it for towing or city driving.

Reset oil change milage

GM OIL LIFE SYSTEM - RESETTING
The engine oil life monitor will indicate when to change the engine oil - usually between 5 000 km (3,000 miles) and 16 000 km (10,000 miles) since the last oil change. Under severe conditions, the "CHANGE OIL SOON" light may be displayed before 5 000 km (3,000 miles). The vehicle must not be driven more than 16 000 km (10,000 miles) or 12 months without an oil change.

Reset the oil life monitor when the oil has been changed, use the following procedure:
  1. Turn the ignition key to the RUN position.
  2. Fully push and release the accelerator pedal 3 times within 5 seconds.
  3. If the Change Oil Soon light flashes, the system is resetting.
  4. Start the vehicle.
  5. The oil life will change to 100%.
  6. If the Change Oil Soon light comes back on, the system has not reset. Repeat the procedure.

How often do you have to change oil in a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire? Consumer Reports is suggesting that newer cars (and I don't know if this means anything after the year 2000) probably can last longer than the...

Hello: At the time your owners manual was printed the oil change recommendation was 7500 miles, BUT that was under ideal driving conditions. (NOBODY drives a car under those conditions) If tour car has a four cylinder engine I would recommend between 3,000 to 4,000 miles. I have a 2001 Saturn with 202000 miles, bought new, use Castrol 10W30 Castrol oil have changed it every 3000 miles my self and have records to prove it. The engine still does not use or leak any oil.

How often does the oil really need to be changed? Every 3,000 miles seems like "overkill". I cannot find my owner's manual, but I thought it was more like every 7,500 miles between oil changes....

well to tell you the truth. now days they say up to 7 thousand, but it is much better on engine if the oil and filter are changed at or around 3000 miles. have a good day!!

I want to know what the basic maintance on a 2000 dodge caravan

It depends on the mileage. You should change hoses, belt(s) and coolant at least every 3 years. Change trans fluid and clean filter every 30,000 miles. Change oil every 3,000 miles. Check the air filter regularly. EGR valve is a 60,000 mile replacement I believe.

If you don't have an owner's manual and like to DIY, get a Chilton or Haynes repair guide. Check the brakes at every rotation - I use 5,000 miles as my guide.

Tune up check list for 59000 miles

Here is the check list. This should also be in your owners manual.

Inspect Brakes and Traction Control
Drive Belt

Fluid - Differential
Inspect front/rear axle fluid level and add fluid as needed. Inspect constant velocity joints and axle seals for leaking. Replace Engine Oil

Change engine oil and filter as indicated by the GM Oil Life System (or every 12 months, whichever occurs first). Reset the indicator. Never drive the vehicle more than 16 000 km (10,000 miles) without and oil and filter change. The system will not detect dust in the oil. If the vehicle is driven in a dusty area, be sure to change the oil every 5 000 km (3,000 miles) or sooner. Fuel Filter

Oil Filter, Engine

Rotate Tires
