How do I replace the thermostat on my 2000 Buick Lesabre Limited 3.8 liter V6?

find where the upper radiator hose goes into the engine. the thermostat lives under that cover. drain some coolant from your COLD engine(to avoid burns) remove the bolts and replace the thermostat. be sure to also purchase a new gasket. some 3.8 s use both a rubber and paper gasket. parts store should have listings. reinstall, refill coolant, and run engine, topping off coolant as engine warms. some have small bleeder screw on the thermostat housing to air in bleeding air while filling. just crack it open until steady steam of coolant comes out. test drive and recheck coolant level. recheck coolant and adjust level for the first few days.
