Lets try process of elimination.
Start with power steering. Check the fluid level.
next is battery, is it corroded? If so use a diet coke on it to eat the corrosion. DC works and does not leave sticky sugar mess. See is terminals are tight by twisting them. If possible, remove and clean with DC then reattatch.
Wiggle the wiring on the alternator and see if they are tight.
Check to see if the alternator belt is still there.
Sometimes the alternator and the power steering are on the same accessory belt.
If so, that is problem.
DIY or try for a local shop to repair it with a quote over the phone if under $100 or so then get it towed or however you can get it there. If alternator belt is gone, it will only run on battery until it weakens. Then it needs to rest and recharge itself. Best to get a wrecker. In san diego they have a company called two bit tow and they are affordable. I have towing on my insurance. Make sure you have the shop name and the manager name and the tow truck company number and name if going through insurance.
This repair may be a little more than I am thinking here but that would depend on brand of parts, labor rate, towing expense etc.
Good luck

If belt is there and everything looked ok, drive to autozone and they will test it for you on the spot.

Sounds like a fan belt broke, that would explain no power steering & check charging light coming on

Dead battery or dirty contact on the battery cables. Try charging battery first because if charging system was not working it also woudl run down the battery.
