Re: Have a 2000 jaguar s type, the check engine light...
You have an exposed electrical source and/or a fan belt that is slipping when it get wets. When the belt slips, voltage drops and ignition is very voltage sensitive. Check you fan belt if it seems loose and or glazed (smooth)
1. The engine coils on the V6 petrol engines are prone to failing early. Symptoms include rough running . This is quite expensive the rectify as the coils all need to be replaced.
Water get into the coils between the scuttle panel and the windscreen so the joint needs to be well sealed. If it is not you will continue to have problems.\
2. Rough running can also be caused by a leak in the vacuum hose above the inlet manifold.
3. The boots also leak in this model (another well known problem) and when water gets into the electrics you will have other problems.
These cars do not have a good reputation for reliability and repairs are usually expensive. So be aware of this if you keep the car.
These are well known problems with this model.
