Question about 1995 Geo Prizm

Even though I let my car run for 20 minutes to warm it up, when I get in the heater is still blowing out cool air. When I start driving, it blows out warm air. But when I stop for a stop sign or light, it starts blowing cool air again.

Check the heater hoses going from motor thru firewall to heater core / if they get warmer when motor is at 2000 rpms or higher then most likely problem is heater core stopped up / if the hoses dont change then thermostat could be stuck open ! good luck

I have a 2007 Saturn, Aura. Heater does not blow hot, slow coolant leak, & it also over heats. Please help! I'm freezing when I'm in my car!!!


You need to fix the coolant leak, then refill and bleed cooling system, then you will get heat and cure overheating problem too

Hi Chris, sounds like your thermostat may be worn and not closing all the way which would cause your engine to run cool at times. If you have a temp gage it should tell you if the engine is actually warming up or not. If not I would replace the thermostat.

I have a 2001 silverado 5.3l 4x4. My heater blows warm air sometimes and then blows cold air. My thermostat stays at a steady 200 degrees when warmed up. I filled my coolant and didn't have any leaks, does...


Sounds like air in the cooling system. Try taking radiator cap off and letting the vehicle run with heater on high. As bubbles come out add coolant. This may take 20 minutes to a half hour.

Heater will not blow warm air, only blows cool air even when the engine is warmed up


Sounds like the thermostat is jammed, I would replace it anyhow for how much it will cost, or possibly the heater matrix, thats the small radiator inside the car behind the dash that takes the hot water in and the fan then blows the heat through the vents, this may be blocked doubtful though more likely the thermostat be careful driving the car in case it overheats and blows the gasket.

It could just be air locked, meaning if you have topped the water up lately or put anti freeze in it it has pulled some air in the water system, much like your house heating you will have to bleed it.

No heat air is blowing cold


First you have to identify what causes the problem.
To do this you have to:
1) When engine is cold check the level of coolant. If it is low fill it up.
2) Start engine and check if engine reaches regular temperature. If your engine is not heated enough it means your thermostat does not work properly and should be replaced.
3) If engine temperature is normal, then check the temperature of pipes that go to/from heater core. These pipes are located up the fire wall (easier access is from the passenger side). If pipe/pipes are cold (even engine is worm) it means you heater core is plugged and should be flushed. Keep in mind, flushing the whole cooling system is different from flushing heater core.
4) If pipe/pipes are hot/warm, turn off the fan, switch controller to the hot position, wait for 3-4 minutes and turn on the fan. Note if the cold air blows first or warm air blows first but it cools down in 5-10 seconds. If the air blows cold than it is most probably the problem with blend door or blend door actuator.
5) If air blows warm first and then cools down, then while running engine and remaining the transmission in PARKING position, press on the gas pedal until your engine reaches 3,000 RPM. Check if your heater blows warm/hot air. If it does, then your water pump does not work properly and should be replaced. If the air still cold, I would suggest to flush the heater core.

It is most probably the problem with blend door or blend door actuator. But just in case I would suggest to follow the entire procedure:

Heater blows cold air


With the car warmed up,feel the heater hoses,are they both warm/hot near the firewall in the engine compartment?If they are both warm/hot,then the heater core should have circulation through it and it may be a "blend door" issue in the heater a/c assembly.If they are not warm/hot then the heater core could be dirty and plugged up and needs to be flushed.
If the above does not help,a drain and vacuum of the cooling system and vacuum refill will remove any trapped air.
Sometimes,clamping off the top rad hose and holding the engine rpm at 2000 rpm will force trapped air out of the heater core.(Watch temp gauge when trying this)
Lastly,a NEW thermostat doesn't mean its working correctly.
