Question about 2003 Acura MDX

3 Answers

I have a 2003 acura mdx, which has water on the floor on the passenger side, I have took the car to glasses place, they have perform a leak check and have found no leaks on the winshield, I have vacuum the car dry. I have took the car to the dealer and have they check the moonroof and cabin filter, they have found nothing wrong with them. they have wash my car after an oil changed. So I have my car parked outside for about an hour, the floor get little wet again and the winshield inside was freeze up, I took the car back to the glasses place again, the technician scratch his head and recommend me to replace the winshield(my winshield is still in really good condition). Please help.....

While either of the solutions may be correct (unless someone lives in Florida or somewhere their using A/C in January, unlike Wendel), the main problem most likely causing the wet carpet is a clogged evap/heater box drain. You can usually crawl under the vehicle and locate the drain on the passenger side lower firewall. It is usually a rubber elbow that points downward and gets clogged with debris and slime over time. If it's a heater core you can feel the anti-freeze between your thumb and two fingers (it feels like a light oil and then sticky as stated earlier, but should now be on your driveway). If it's water and your using A/C everything should be normal. If it's water and winter, you have bad seals or debris holding open your vent inlets just under the windshield (this might show up better by noticing difficulty getting the vehicle to warm or defrost windshields in fair amount of time and even the smell of other vehicle's exhust fumes when you have the system set to recirculate air). This is not usually an exciting repair.

A way to check if windshield is leaking, take it to someone who has air compressor. Have someone sit in car while other person sprays air pressure at suspect areas and listen for air leak.

Heavy rain leds to water on drivers side floor

you might want to peel the carpet back and check for hole in the floor board. this is not something you can see just by crawling under to look at. Light has to pass through. Carpet pulls up easy from under the pedals, remove thebottom of the door jam like four screws and then you will know for sure.

Passenger side carpet wet after it rains in a 2003 Acura MDX

check the bulkhead area under the wipers. the scuttle panel has a drain hole & tube that ducts rain water away but can become blocked by dirt and leaves etc, then the water builds up and flows backwards over the edge and down the back of the dashboard via the bulkhead joints. A knitting needle or welding rod can be used to poke the hole clear then test by pouring a small amount of water through the grille beside the wipers and ensure it runs away and does not sit.

Also check your coolant level, if it is down then the leak may be from the heater matrix inside the car, this is more difficult to fix and needs the dashboard removed in a lot of cars.

The 3rd possibility is a leaking windscreen surround. Silicone would fix that, get the black stuff and put a thin bead around the outer edge of the windscreen rubber and smooth neatly with a wet finger or cloth.

2004 Acura MDX Water Leak

The 2002 MDX I worked on turned out to be a drainage problem . Seems the factory installed foam in the bottom of the hinge pillar post which blocked the drain holes . Take off the mud flap , remove enough of the splash shield to access the bottom of the hinge pillar and drill a half inch hole at the front lower corner aiming the drill slightly upward ( be sure to protect the bare metal) .Water gushed out when I did this. For extra ins. remove the kick panels and check for two holes a few inchs from the floor, plug and chaulk these holes. Hope this worksfor you too

ACURA MDX Wet Floors

There are three places that water can be coming from. The least likely is from underneath, unless you've been driving through deep water (ask the kids about that if they get to use the car). ;-) The other places are from a plugged sunroof drain - just open the sunroof, and carefully pour a quart of water into the channel in the front and see if it finds its way through the drain holes at the front corners, and out the bottom of the car (it takes just seconds to make the trip). The third possibility is a gap in the gasket or sealant around the windshield (the water will run down inside the windshield pillar, and find its way to your carpet). The only option there is to have the windshield replaced (or at least removed and reinstalled - if you can find someone who'll do that). There's some chance that there's a rust hole under the gasket, too, particularly if the windshield was replaced previously by a ham-fisted tech who scratched up the paint when replacing a windshield.
