I have a 1992 honda accord and the timing cover is broken and or cracked almost all the way around. Why is oil coming out from that arrea?


more then likely you have a cam seal or crank seal leaking, should be looked at since oil will damage and degrade the timing belt which could leave to failure and high chance of permanet motor damage requiring a new motor

2004 sebring 2.7 has grating noise when cold. Engine is quiet once it's warmed up. One mechanic told me belt and tensioner need to be replaced. Another told me this is a internal noise common


Cams are WELL known for knocking on these engines. It isnt a sticky piston ring or timing. The cams have a wear point on the lobes and will make noise till warm and the oil is warm. I habe worked on many of these engines. Best bet is to run a good oil and a little heavier year around like 10w 30 high mileage oil. Even lucas oil additice helps with the noise because it doesnt drain down like oil and keeps the lodes and lifters oiled better.

Squeaking while driving


jack up each wheel and turn them see if noise is comeing from wheel moveing or could be in drive train or worn out brakes squelers going off

1989 tercel major oil leak passanger side. how do i change the oil pump gasket? do i need to change timing belt too? N where is the unit located? is it under the cover between the valve cover and oil pan?


The oil pump is located under the black timing cover , however your leak is likely the lower main seal under that cover as well , your oil pump will be on the upper right side , you should replace them both and the timing belt while your there considering the cost of the parts , it is good insurance you wont lose your belt while you still own your car and have to go back in again , it is not hard to do just be patient , also when you loosen off your timing belt tensioner '' to remove the belt ''dont forget to re tension it after you replace it

Change front main seal , leaking oil around timing chain cover. could be seal around harmonica balancer.


yes, I just changed one of these recently. Had to take both front and bottom off engine. Very difficult repair, as there are no good jack points for the engine when you have all the motor mounts off.
Here is procedure I would recommend.
Remove starter and engine to transmission brackets front and back.
Remove transmission starter gear cover.
drain oil and remove oil pan.
put a block under the crankshaft and jack to release weight on motor mount.
remove front motor mount (by serpentine belt)
remove belt.
remove compressor and bracket.
remove crank pulley and vib damper.
remove timing cover. mark timing belt with direction of travel
loosen tensioner gear.
remove timing belt.
remove crankshaft timing gear and key.
remove seal and oil pump housing.
clean gasket surfaces.
replace seal and reverse procedure.

Oil leak on 54 plate jaguar x type


Hi I have the same problem on my 07 plate 2.2 litre diesel x type - oli seal needs to be replaced behind timing cover - the part is cheap at about 16 pound but the labour is horrendous at around 450 because of the need to dismantle so much to get the cover off...

Oil leak on the rotor timing out put shaft


If you mean the camshaft seal, yes, you would need to pull the timing belt and sprocket off, and if you are anywhere near the service interval for the belt, replace it and the water pump (unless the water pump is very easy to service, and the tensioner.  
You will probably need a (gear/sprocket) puller to get the sprocket off and a another type of (seal) puller to get the seal out.  You could probably extract the old seal with a screwdriver, but it's not recommended.  Get a Haynes manual (around $20) before you even contemplate doing this youself. If you haven't done this before, are mechanically inclined. and have all the tools, you will spend about 1/2 a day to do either the cam seal by itself, or the seal, timing belt, tensioner and water pump.  Once you have it all apart, the last three components will only add an hour to the job, and you won't be stranded when the timing belt breaks.
