Question about 1998 Honda Accord

1 Answer

1998 Honda Accord with 157K miles on it. Of course it?s an intermittent problem, on occasion at low RPM 1000-2100 behaves like bad gas. It chucks and sputters, never totally stalls however looses power, then recovers. On occasion I am able to recreate the situation on a steep hill at the low rpm. After the accord gets it self sorted out, it will run all day at 60-70 MPH no issues. A Honda mechanic pulled injectors and said they where dirty. Gas pump was pulled today, no water visible in the tank, looks like original gas filter and pump

is there an absolute test for the egr valve. Spent a considerable amount of money chasing this issue, including the Honda dealer..Don't want to purchase another maybe fix for $380.
I agree it makes logical... but

Thanks for the idea, its gone into a garage to have the EGR tested and replaced if necessary, I will get back to you as you seem pretty confident.

What's the normal rpm while shifting gears on an automatic 2006 c230?

No such figure. Shift points can be near the redline RPM or just above idle, it depends on hard you press the gas pedal.

1998 Honda Accord engine rumbles and stops

rumbles?, did the RPM drop below 800 RPM? that is called idle failure
and when it does, idle can go to 400 rpm and will shake hard.
and is normal for illegal idle speeds. so post that first.
post that engine stalls
and that the RPM is 400-500 just before the stall.
then post if the fast right foot can save the stall (a key test !!!!)
if easy the ISC is sticking.
if tad hard the EGR is stuck open'
if impossible to save. then more possible (many)
ever do the 60k mile tune up this decade????,. if not why not./ now.

2010 ford edge starts intermittently. Replaced battery - doesn't try to crank - just nothing.

Problem with 1998 Honda Accord 2010 ford edge starts intermittently. Replaced no crank is
1: a weak battery (try different good one, or jumper cable it)
2: bad cables or conn. from battery to starter.
3: bad starter.
4: bad key line (alarm cut, PRNDL switch open, bad ignition switch.
Five minutes with any voltmeter finds this easy.
or or hot wire the starter solenoid, to cut the problem in 1/2
this proves problem is in starter or battery
or in Key line, in 5 min flat, (a 100 year old test )

there are very simple tests for each of the 4. ask.

Intermittent Engine Error codes p1009 and p0341.

Bad timing chain tensioner or timing chain has stretched causing cam timing to be off. There is a solenoid for the vtc advancement that also might be bad. Get a good Honda tech to take a look at it!

Hi i have a 98 honda accord lx and i wanted to know wether it was my trammy or the clutch because when ever i do a rolling stop or if i had jus finished backing up nd as soon as i put it in drive and press...

I had the same problem on a 1998. The computer controlled mixture at idle is not working right, and idle is dipping below 700 rpm. The culprit was a dirty throttle body intake. This tends to foul the plugs as well, after a few minutes of idling, so i would recommend changing the plugs after you have the system cleaned. The problem is intermittent because at high engine speed, say 3000 rpm, the plugs clear up and work normally.

I have an 89 Honda Accord lx and it idles too low

The idle speed for my 88 accord lx is 700-850 rpm for standard idle speed. The stalling is a seperate issue. When were plugs, wires, air/gas filters and distributor last checked? How long has engine been running for when you stall? Is the temprature gauge high? Any lights coming on when stall occurs? I am not a mechanic, but a DYI'er. These are common questions I am always asked when troubleshooting my Honda. :)

Reduced power below 4000 RPM

The main relay also controls the transmission and will cause an intermittent interruption of power and indicates its going bad. about a $60.00 replacement cost. the relay is located under left side of dash.
