Check both, but start with alternator before climbing underneath pulling starter.

Check to see whats wrong with 01 saturn sc 3d wont start

If it won't even ''crank'', then it is probably a bad ignition switch. If it does ''crank'', then there are too many possibilities for internet diagnosis. (But if _no crank_ after starter and battery replacement, it's a good bet that it's a bad ignition switch).

My s-sries saturn will start and start and start for days then all of a suuden it wont, they said that the battery and that starter is good so what could it be?

It could be the Alternator but if it starts and runs for a while, that means the alternator is good and it must be the battery. Does it start and run normal when jump started?

2001 Saturn Wagon one minute it runs the next the lights on dash light up but doesn't turn over. Let it sit for number of hours and it starts right up? Has new battery could it possibly be the...

Hi:) I have a Saturn Wagon and had the same problem i bought a new starter to find out when i was putting it on. The wire going to the solenoid on the starter was loose and only needed tightened but since i was there i put the new one on anyway because of the age of the old starter.
It seems that a washer that is between the nut and the wire rusts away and loosen the connection over time.

I had the same problem...My brother-in-law changed the starter and it fixed the problem. I had no clicking either-only lights, stereo, etc. It was the starter.

Your radio and most of your accessories will still work with a low charged battery. The clicking sound you are experiencing is most likely from a low charged battery not giving enough amperage to the starter. Were you able to start the car after getting a boost? If so, then it is your battery. Does your car cut out while driving? If so, then it is your alternator (device that charges your battery while the car is running). It is either the battery or alternator.

2001 Mitsubishi eclipse wont start

you don't hit the alternator, you hit the starter to help is shake free because it is already going bad. take battery and alternator to parts store and have both tested. check the wires at the starter and make sure they are on SECURELY. very important SOLID CONTACT is occurring. do your lights turn on? check starter relay if the eclipse is equipped with one.

98 saturn sl1 won't start

If the problem occurs after the car has been driven long enough to reach normal operating temperature, the problem is the starter. If the 'no crank' occurs cold, retest the battery.
