Identify cause of right rear wheel stuttering in turns (either direction) at low speed. No unusual noise.

Is your car a rear wheel drive? If so, the limited slip differential grease is low...if front wheel drive could be right rear strut/shock assembly is totally worn out...wheel bearing maybe, but usually makes a grinding noise...does applying the brakes affect this stuttering? Should be a free inspection at most quality repair shops...good that you notice this before it gets worse...

Why is there a clunking noise only when turning hard left, e.g., when parking or making a U-turn?

sounds like your cv joint needs replacing on that single side if you are hearing a grinding# How are your anti roll bar bushes and drop links? It may be a combination of things rather than just the one. Clunking and grinding do not necessarily go together but might be a symptom of a single issue.
Maybe Fixya should set up a sound file facility so that we can listen to such sounds too!!

Creaking and grinding noise when turning steering wheel

Were the top strut bearings changed?

You don't turn the steering wheel, unless
your have the vehicle moving or off the ground

Do you flush the power steering fluid every 3 years,
when you do the trans fluid every 3 years?

Had new struts/ shocks put in 3months ago it sounds loud and clunky on the right front side and now when turning steering wheel it grinds and smells like a belt is burning. Had mechanic look at it who put...

One thing is for sure, everything is not fine and it does not take time to break in new struts. You should of had a smooth ride as soon as you pulled off from the mechanic. I would most deffinately go back and speak with the manager of lead mechanic and make them ride with you so they can feel and hear for themselves. Be assertive as well. Don't let them tell you just anything. Now, there could be an issue with your rack and pinion or the steering box could be going bad. Either way, it will NOT get better on it's own. Don't waste time. Hope this helps.

04 cavalier makes grinding noise in front end turn the wheel to the right grinding gets worse turn the wheel to the left grinding stops. it sounds worse at 40mph and above. what would cause this?

3 things to check:
Worn disc brake pads, grinding against the rotor.
Wheel bearing
cv joint.
You posted grinding gets worse turning to the right, the problem is the driver side wheel, but it would be best to have both wheeles checked.
