It all depends on what yr the ford is b/c my grandmas car dose it a lot when you go to shut the car off make sure it is in park and it is in a idle then when you start it it should be fine if not go under the hood and see if it accelator can be lossened a littel bit if so it will save you on gas and the idle wont be as high. if that dose not work then dont worrie about it it wont harm the car any and dont pump the gas pedall while the car is not running

Flashing light on my dash of a engine

hi patricia
FIAT engine light flashing means the ECU needs adaptation,
you can do it yourself just follow this procedure.
( remember not to accelerate unles is stated) start the engine
let it to warm and wait for the cooling fan to come ON then OFF 3 times, like ON,OFF,ON,OFF,ON,OFF. After the fan cuts off the third time accelerate fully down let the engine rev up to 4000 only then leave the accelerator let the engine goes down back to idle, do this 3 times.the engine light should go away.
good luck

Sonata losing power

Hmm, it's hard to diagnose without being there in person. Whatever help I can give you is this: The 9 causes of why an engine does not exert as much power as it should to take off right away as soon as you press down:

Idle irratic

Here are some of the causes of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake
