You need new hing pins and bushings. easy fix. just pop out the old pin put new bushings in and put new pin in. place a jack or stand under door when removing pin.

The door hinge in my saturn l300 is bent. Now the foor will not open. Should I replace the whole Door? how do I get the hinge off to replace it if it's actually welded on?


it would be unlikely that the hinge is welded on as it is necessary to ne able to adjust the door during vehicle assembly
the procedure is to open the door and with the help of friends holding the door undo the bolts holding the door onto the frame or pillar
remove the hinge then from the door
check that the metal where the hinge is bolted to is not bent/deformed as that normally bends before the stronger hinge metal does

There should be a plate that has been taped or a nut wellded on the
other side of the fram ether way have someone weld it closed and retape it, or have new nut welded on the oposite side of the hinge

The passanger door on a 2006 mustang gt convertable was pushed forward and when u open the door it catches the front quarter pannel. So I need to move it back a little bit so it does not catch. ??


take a small piece of wood 1"x 3" x about 4" long and place inside door jam at hinge , slowly close door until it puts pressure on wood,... push door shut gently and remove wood and try shutting door , this is what they call redneck auto body. to do it right you will need to remove hinge and add washers to back side of hinge plate so it moves hinge out thus pushing door alignment back if hinge is welded on add washers to door side where hinges attach to door.

The hinges are held together with two top, and two bottom, 10 millimeter bolts. (At the pivot point) However, one half of the hinge is welded to the pillar, the other half to the door. That being said...The bolts can be removed to take the door off. BUT, in order to go any further: the hinges will have to be cut and welded. So I guess the answer your looking for is. Take the door off, unplug the wires, cut and weld the half necessary to repair the deficiency

How hard is it to replace door hinge,pins and springs on a 2000 chevy blazer


The door hinge pins aren't very difficult to replace, the hinge itsself is. The hinge is actually welded to the door, so in order to replace it, you will need to take it apart, cut the welds, and weld a new one on, and paint it again. The hinge pins though are doable by about anyone. First, you will NEED these tools. A medium sized hammer, a brass drift punch, a long flat screwdriver, tire iron, or prybar, and something to rest the door on to keep from scratching it up, and to keep from pulling the wiring out. it should be about the same height as the bottom of the door. You may WANT these tools: door spring compressor, 1 extra person. First, start with the bottom hinge pin. You'll notice that there are a couple of washers around the tapered end of the pins. Ignore these; they're just decoration for all intent purposes. Pry out that spring that you see in next to the hinge with the prying utensil that you chose. Using that hammer and punch, drive out the bottom pin. Next, drive out the top pin, taking care to support the door, because when this one comes out, the door WILL fall. This is where your extra person and the milk crate, or whatever you chose to support the door come in. Be careful when driving the top pin out. The punch and hammer will come DANGEROUSLY close to the windshield, and result in a $190 job for a windshield and hinge pin/bushings, versus just $10 for the hinge pin/bushings. This is where you would repair the oblong holes that your door hinge undoubtedly has. You can get by with using something like Qwik Steel putty to fill in the gaps around the bushings if you want to stay cheap (you may end up having to redo it in a few years, but beats welding a new hinge on and having to redo it in a few years anyways. Or, you can choose to build the area up with a welder, redrill the holes, and go that route. Anyways, after you get your new bushings settled in, whether you used the steel putty route, welding, or just installed a new hinge, you can put the door back up there and the pins back in. I like putting the new ones in so the taper is at the bottom (keep thinking they look like they're gonna fall out the way GM puts them in there, though they never do), and then you have an option. If you want, you can leave the spring out that was in there. It will require a door spring compressor to put back in, but if you don't put it in, it won't do anything other than keep it from moving on its own when it's open. I don't bother with it. Hope that's what you're after, and good luck. It's not a hard job, but it can be a wrestling match putting the pins back in. Lastly, the door is a lot heavier than it looks, just FYI when you get it loose. Feel free to ask any further questions, I keep track of these.

Guess they should have re-enforced those...too many are coming off. Not an easy fix but you need to remove the door and have the inside of the pillar re-enforced and welded in place with a heavier gauge insert. I've only seen one person do this in a way that impressed me. He cut a slot in the pillar and slid the insert inside, supported it with a screw placed into a pre -drilled hole (used as a handle), then welded it into the opening. the weld was then ground flat and the hinge was tack welded on top, while still on the door, then door was removed again and weld was completed. A lighter gauge piece was welded over the opening (slot) and then the pillar was re-painted. (looks like factory, wasn't cheap but was very strong.)

dont weld it first drill and screw it on 2 screws to see if it lines up and closes all right then have it mig welded leave screws in till welded then just totch it up

Driver door on '86 Porche 944 will not close properly


If it's bolted on, check the top hinge bolt for being loose. there is an adjustment slot the bolt can slide in. It's a easy fix. If it's welded on check the top hinge weld behind the fender. Mine came apart at that spot (previos owner rewelded prior to my ownership). You will need to remove the fender to get in there to weld. The hinge is thicker than the sheet metal it's attached to.

Open door position hold latch snaps real loud opening and closing the door


The hinge has most likely broken loose from the door frame. Look at the main body where the slider bar attaches to the body from the door. It is common for the hinge to break loose. It will need to be spot welded back into place to stop the clicking noise. Usualy two clicks when the door opens and then when it closes.

check your door bushings in the door hinge these probably need replacing. if you can lift up on door and feel play they are wore out. common issue on these if not you can put a wood block betwwen bottom of door and body and push on top of door to bend it a little to close top tighter
