Question about 2002 Dodge Dakota Club Cab

Open Question

I replaced my break switch on my 2002 dodge dakota because it wasn't going out of park, now my break lights won't come on. I tried 2 new Switches in case 1 was bad but still no luck. I noticed not all the wires were connected on the old one and maybe that is the problem, but I don't know what color wire goes into each terminal. I know 1 and 2 work lights 3 and 4 work abs and 5 and 6 work speed control (which has never worked, maybe because it wasn't hooked up) But I need to know what color wire goes into what terminal? Thxs Debbie

Your best bet on that one is to go to a place that sells car audio systems or even some autoparts retailers have them, and get the proper adapter harness already made up. A few more dollars but, a whole lot less headaches.

I own a 2001 dodge dakota 4x4, my brake lights wont work, I have park lights, turn signals, back up lights, even 4 way flashers, I replaced the brake unit on the brake pedal, and checked all fuses, they...

When you say you checked the fuse, was this just a visual check....or did you try replacing the fuse the a new one? Sometimes a visual check doesn't show minute breaks in the fuse wire, which gives a false appearance that the fuse is fine.

When the fuse is ok, this problem normally relates to the brake switch (mounted to the brake pedal). When this switch is replaced, you should always use a multimeter and check the switch is operating correctly when touching the brake pedal.

If the switch is ok, then suspect a faulty relay (if applicable to the Dakota).

Hello, I have a 2002 dodge dakota, and it won't shift out of park. What is possibly the problem?

Hi, there is a solenoid at the base of the shifter that releases the lever from park. The solenoid is actuated by the switch above the brake pedal. Check to see of your brake lights are working. If not, replace the switch. If yes, the problem is likely the solenoid. Many vehicles have a slot on the console to release the shifter when the system fails to work as designed. If you can find that, maybe it will buy you some time until you have a chance to troubleshoot the problem.

The only window that will go up or down on my 2002 dodge dakota is the driver's door window. Neither the drivers door up/down switch or the switches on the other doors will make the window go up or down.

Your driver's door switch is the only thing all those windows have in common. They are all wired to that switch. It is probably time for a new master switch for your driver door. If you remove it and there aren't any broken wires or bad connecttions. It's time for a new one.

I have a 94 dodge dakota and when it is cold my head lights don't turn on but the parking lights do i would than let it warm up for about 25 min before it does

I would have to say that this odd problem is due to the headlight relay under the hood sticking when it is VERY cold. There really can't be any other cause.
If this helps you, please remember to vote/comment. Good luck!

O2 Dodge Dakota Brake lights wont work but bulbs r good.

If the bulbs are good I would suspect the Brake light switch.

Brake Light Switch: Testing and Inspection
The brake lamp switch can be tested with an ohmmeter. The ohmmeter is used to check continuity between the pin terminals.
Switch Circuit Identification
- Terminals 1 and 2: brake lamp circuit
- Terminals 3 and 4: RWAL/ABS module and Powertrain Control Module (PCM) circuit
- Terminals 5 and 6: speed control circuit
Switch Continuity Test
NOTE: Disconnect switch harness before testing switch continuity.
With switch plunger extended, attach test leads to pins 1 and 2. Replace switch if meter indicates no continuity.
With switch plunger retracted, attach test leads to pins 3 and 4. Replace switch if meter indicates no continuity.
With switch plunger retracted, attach test leads to pins 5 and 6. Replace switch if meter indicates no continuity.

Interior light stay on intermitant

Check for moisture under the interior carpeting.
I have see it cause this when the wiring gets wet on the connections from the door switches. Other wise you are going to have to get a meter and check all the wiring to each door and the lamp switch.
