It can still be the brake light switch, bypass the switch, and see if the lights will come on.

Break lights quit working

Your brake light pedal switch is the likely cause. When you depress brake pedal it pushes in a little plunger on the switch gets out of position and the plunger is not pushed In by brake pedal the brake Iights will not work, switches also fail and require replacement, without knowing the make and model of the vehicle that is about all the info I can provide. If you need further assistance please provide year make and model, good luck !

I have a 1996 Volvo 850 Wagon. I discovered today that none of the brake lights come on when the brake pedal is depressed, (even fully). All 3 brake light bulbs are OK, no error message on the dash, and...

disconnect the wires from the brake pedal switch, put an ohm meter across the connectors and move the plunger in and out. if there is a short one way and an open the other way, the switch is good. if there is no change in resistance, based on the plunger position, then the switch is bad.

Neither brake light will come on when I get on brake.Changed the fuse and bulbs already. keyless device only work sometimes. Put new CR2016 batteries in. Please help!!!

suspect a bad brake light switch,on the brake pedal itself.the key need not be on when checking the brake light switch.but requires 2 to insure the brake lights come on,one to push the brake. theres a switch on the brake pedal itself. look above the brake pedal pad that you push to apply the brakes. you will see a plunger that moves in and out, just to supply the current to the brakelights.if the plungers out of sync,it will not work. or it may only be stuck.or simply bad,if it moves and brake lights do not work. if the plunger works on visual inspection, and is plugged up,the switch is suspect to be bad. thank you,for choosing!! SIMPLE SOLUTION,CHECK THE BRAKE LIGHT FUSE. IT MAY ONLY BE BLOWN. UNDER THE DASH ON DRIVERS SIDE CLOSEST TO YOUR LEFT FOOT WHEN APPLYING BRAKES. WITH FLASHLIGHT,CHECK FOR BLOWN BRAKE LIGHT FUSE. if this fails, check for blown brakelight bulbs. unlikely that both brake light bulbs blown at once! but not unusall. thank you for choosing!!

My chevrolet pickup C1500 cheyenne 4.3 l have problem with my brakelight. the bulbs are ok but the lihgts do not goes on when i press my brake.

Depending on the year, assuming that it's between 88 and 98, I'd inspect the plugs on the circuit boards on the tail lights. They often go bad and require the boards to be replaced.

Back up lights on 2000 corvette won't work.

Go to the Brake Light Switch located on the rear side of the Brake Pedal Arm.
Test this Switch by pushing the plunger in and check to see if you have Brake Lights. If you do have brake lights then the switch is good. Most of these plungers can be adjusted out or in to make a good connection. with the Brake Pedal Arm to activate the brakes.
If you do not have brake lights when you depress the plunger:
Remove the switch from the support arm.
Disconnect the electrical connection.
Check for Voltage.
If you have Voltage: replace the Switch.
If you do not have Voltage then recheck the Fuses and Relays.
Let me know if this worked or if you have additional information or questions. Feel free to contact me at!

91 Honda accord none of brake lights working, fuse is good, bulbs are good

hi from uk if everthing you checked is ok ? then fault is probably the brake light switch is either faulty or the plunger that is supposed to move out as the pedal is pressed so putting b/lights on has stuck inside/off position? so if you look up at b/pedal just below the pivot shaft forpedal you will see the switch and it is srewed into the pedal box assy it has a plug of two wires connected ? pull off plug then use a wire paper clip opened up and join the two contacts in plug this makes connection to b/lights on have assistant check lights work when ignition is on? if yes? then remove clip ign off then unscrew the actual switch from its hole when removed? check if plunger is coming all way out or is stuck ? if either of these try wd40 on the plastic plunger and work it in/out when you are happy it works ok ? then b4 you refit just connect the plug and again test with ign on plunger out lights on! plunger in lights off if it works? then unplug and screw switch back in hole to approx last position and connect plug recheck b/lights operate as you press pedal approx 3/4 " b4 lights operate this is trial+error screwing in or out untill you are happy lights give early warning to following cars that you are braking ? however if lights work with clip but not on switch after completing above ? then you will need to renew switch they do sometimes melt contacts and burn inside mostly due to constant holding car with footbrake instead of park brake for long periods also a common reason for brake light bulbs blowing bad driving habit ! so consider this advise please and hope all is clear above ?

Three brake lights went out. Replaced little bulb and it works

hi from uk if all bulbs ok? and ou have checked fuse then the problem is most probably the brake light switch that is stuck in the off position ie the plunger which is supposed to come out and put light on being plastic they do sometimes stick the switch is just above the brake pedal and has a 2xpin plug attached if you unplug and connect the 2 terminals using a wire or paperclip ? then have an assistant check if lights work? if yes then check to see if the plunger on switch is failing to come out when you press pedal ? if yes ? then switch is faulty but if plunger is stuck use wd 40 and work the plunger by twisting and pressing in/out to free it ? then recon the plug and try lights ? if switch is faulty ? easy diy to replace it simply screws out from pedal box assy ten fit new switch and adjust by screwing so lights are off with pedal off and on as pedal is pressed approx 1/2 " to operate lights to on ! this is simply trial/error untill you are happy ? hope this helps best wishes from n/west uk

No Brake Lights?!?

There is brake light switch located under the dash. It is inserted in a metal bracket that is a part of the brake pedal assembly. When you depress the brake pedal the pedal arm moves away from the brake switch allowing a spring loaded plunger to move out of the switch. As the plunger moves out of the switch a set of contacts close in the switch and turn the brake lights on.

You stated the 10amp under hood brake light fuse is good so check to see if you have power on the "orange" wire at the brake switch with pedal all the way up. Then press the pedal down and you should have power on the " light blue" wire going out of the switch.

We will start there, let me know what you find.

Brake Lights

The brake lights are engaged by a switch when you press the brake pedal. It is a plunger type switch, then when released, turns on the lights.

It appears that the plunger is not extending and making the connection. Try press on the brake pedal with one hand, and plull out on the switch plunger, see if the lights come on.

You should be able to replace the switch for less than $10
