Question about 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse

1 Answer

The car will turn over but not fire. i sprayed starting fluid in it and it tryed to fire. i have now replaced the fuel pump strainer and filter. still the car wont fire. i believe it may b the anti-theft relay not allowing a spark to get thru. any suggestion on where to find that on the car and to replace?

yes and i have had the ecu replaced within the last 3 months. i can hot wire it and get it to fire which is y i think it has something to do with the anti-theft relay. it just wnt fire when i turn it over

    what are you hot wiring?

  • sexy_cheyann Jan 03, 2011

well my mechanic friend is hot wiring it trying to figure it out. i assume he is using the ignition wires like u wld to normaly hot wire a vehicle

i drove the car to wrk took it for my lunch and when i went to leave for home it wldnt start. i checked all fluids and then tried the starting fluid. it tried to fire so i thought it was the fuel pump so i replaced that and still it wont fire. everything else is wrkin properly. something is causing it to not spark while turning the ignition. yet it will fire while hot wiring

If it tried to start when you sprayed starting fluid into the engine ( which is very bad to do to a fuel injected engine) then you have spark. What you are probably missing is injector pulse, which may be due to the control relay.

My 1997 dodge truck 360 turns over and is getting fire but won't start.I bought a new ignition switch and the black box but it still won't start

Pull rubber hose off the side of plastic throttle body cover..spray starting fluid in where hose was connected, have someone turn key while you spray, if you don't have someone, spray for abt 5 seconds then try and crank. If cranks and runs briefly, its a fuel problem, fuel pump fuse, bad fuel pump, clogged fuel filter .

Cranks but wont start

Likely a fuel delivery problem.

Check the filter, as it may be clogged and due for replacement. To test for fuel delivery, open your airbox and spray some starter fluid (purified ether, usually) down into the throttle body while someone else cranks the engine. If it fires up and runs for a few seconds but won't run without spraying the starter fluid, then you know you've got spark and compression. If that's the case, there could be any number of potential issues: throttle position sensor (not very common, but it does happen), fuel injectors clogged (common if you use low-grade fuel), fuel filter/strainer clogged (filters should be replaced every 30k miles or so, on average), fuel pump failure (you should hear a buzzing from the fuel pump when you crank the engine).

If the starter fluid doesn't help, then the problem is no spark. Check each plug/cable for fouling.

Car wont start. replaced fuel pump (twice), fuel filter, fuel strainer, tested starter, replaced crank sensor, replaced computer. can put fuel directly into intake and will start.

Definitely not a knock sensor.

Just to clarify, you spray starting fluid in the intake and it will start and run for a short time and then stall?

Won't start. turning, but won't fire.

If you think its fuel, spray some starter fluid inthe throttle body. If it fires up, you have a fuel problem, otherwise, check your spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor. Also, check your fuses.

Truck turns over and fires but wont run

If the fuel filter is not plugged replace the fuel pump, just make sure there are no holes in the fuel line from the tank to the pump, this applies to states and regions that use salt on the roads...

Daewoo Lanos, turns over but will not start.......

You must check for power and ground to the fuel pump ,you will have power for approx. 2 seconds with key first turned to the run position and then you will have constant battery voltage during cranking. You may also want to go to AutoZone .com or Alldata.com and bur online manuel for you Daewoo.the are very reasonable and informative. If you find you have correct voltage supply and ground, and assuming the fuel guage is correct and there is fuel,it is very likely you will be replacing the fuel pump , strainer and filter. Don`t laugh on the fuel guage comment, I have had several vehicle towed in to me for no starts, only to find the guage not reading correctly , and the vehilcle was out of fuel.Good luck I hope this helps.
