If it's a 4.0L I believe it's on the passenger side of the engine near the water pump pulley.

How to replace water pump on 2002 ford ranger

Locate your water pump, locate the idler wheel. The idler wheel will release the tension of your belt so you can get your water pump off. There should be about 3 bolts holding your pump on and an in and out hose. You will need a bucket to catch the water. Remove the pump and replace with the new pump. Reattach the hoses, restring your belt, tighten the belt at the idler that you loosened to get the belt off. Refill your antifreeze/water to the specifications in your manual and you are ready. Recheck fluid levels after you have started it for a few seconds and top off if needed. MAKE SURE TO DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY BEFORE PERFORMING WORK

K1500 idler arm

There is an idler arm and a pitman arm.
The Pitman connects the steering box to the steering linkage by/through a ball joint. The idler arm should be on the other side by the passenger wheel.

1996 Saturn the belt pulley located towards the top of the engine broke. What type of pulley is it - idler or tension? I do all my repairs, is this one I can do and procedure? Can't find anything in...

if it is attached to a spring loaded arm it is a tension puller, otherwise it is an idler, the idler is known to be an issue, you can unbolt it easy enough but is a bit tricky squeezing it past the wheel well unless you jack up the engine a little bit.bring the old pulley with you when you go for a new one just to be sure they give you the right one.

I njust noticed my steering wheel in my 2000GMC 1500 is now rotated about 100 degrees when the truck is going straight. My mech. says tie rods and tierod ens are tight and everthing seems normal...he did...

a bad idler arm/pitman arm, You will have a hard time trying to keep the car going straight, it will wander all over the road.
  1. Road walking. When the vehicle wanders back and forth in the direction of travel and it is difficult to keep it straight.
  2. When sitting still, there is considerable play in the steering wheel. It can be moved considerably with no resistance.
  3. When sitting still, and with the front wheels off the ground, it is possible to move the wheels side to side without the steering wheel moving. If there is to much play in the steering wheel or side to side movement of the wheel when the vehicle is stopped could indicate there is a problem with the idler arm.

What does a ideler arm for a 2003 Kia Rio do problem:

The kia rio uses rack and pinion steering, which does not use an idler arm. Did someone tell you you had an idler arm?

For cars that have classical steering designs, the idler arm is a part of the steering linkage that makes the front wheels turn about the same on both sides. Actually, the wheel on the side of the turn turns a little bit more. The idler arm is necessary for the wheels to turn properly. When the joints in the idler arm wear out, the right wheel is allowed to move back and forth on it's own. This causes vinration, excess tire wear, and possibly an unsafe steering condition if the wear is excessive. .

How to tighten belt on 2004 nissan quest

Best to remove the front passenger side wheel. Then snap out the clips that are holding the plastic cover towards the front. Now it will expose the belt area. Loosen the locking nut of the tensioner(idler) pulley located to the right of the Crankshaft Pulley. Crankshaft pulley is the one that handles both belts (alternator and the power sterring pump). Right to that next to it, upwards is the idler pulley. You will find the alternator pulley to the right of that further up. Open the hood of the van and locate the adjusting nut behind the alternator on the idler pulley from top and loosen that as well. Once both these are loosened, belt will loosen and will be easy to remove. Now replace it with the new belt the same way it was wrapped. Go over the crankshaft pulley; under the A/C compressor pulley; over the alternator pulley; under the idler pulley. tighten the adjusting nut from the top through the hood until the play on the belt (when pressed in) is less than 1 inch. Now lock the tensioner pulley by tightening the locking nut. Start and run the car for 15 mins to see if everything is ok.

Changing a serpatine belt on s40 volvo

Use a rachet to relieve the tension on the idler wheel, remove old belt, install new belt using the guide, either under the hood, or from the manual. Again use the idler tension relief to finish. when the rachet is on the idler wheel it is usually used to lift wheel off belt, to relieve tension.

Ineed to replace the serpintine belt, mine shreded, went and purchased replacement from lordco auto parts, could not seem to get belt to tighten up could you please advise the correct belt part # as well...

There is a idler wheel that has a bolt that when loosened will cause it to spring back. As you lay under the car with your feet first inward ( looking straight up from under vehicle snake the belt through and over the pulleys then pry back with a long pry bar the idler pulley lever after loosening bolt on wheel or lever as you put the belt over the pulleys. I have done this belt on a 1999 528 i it is a unpleasant job without a diagram showing the serpentine pulley arrangement, there is a second idler pulley located slightly higher than the release locking idler pulley don't confuse the two, I would advise aquiring a serpentine belt diagram (cd repair manual on ebay motors) unless you are confident you can figure it out through trial and error.

That should be right if it is an idler pulley. On belts that do not have idler pulley you will have to loosen lock bolt on adjuster. Like alternator
