Question about 1997 Nissan Quest

Open Question

My 1997 quest continues to discharge even with a new battery, last night i tried to start it and not even a click was heard. i hooked up the jumper cables and nothing, i then, like an idiot cross wired the cables for just a second. i checked the fuze box and noticed that i had taken out the alternator fuzible link. when i tried to pull the link the pins stayed in the block. do i need to remove a bolt below the block or something to get these pin out, and will i be able to jump start the car when i replace this link?

Ignition clicks but doesn't turn over

If you just replaced the battery then my guess is that you have a bad alternator. Your fresh battery could hold the charge for a couple days without being charged but now it's dead. Try charging the battery (via jumper cables or a battery charger). If the car starts up after the charge then you probably need a new alternator. You can verify this by checking the voltage across the battery after you start the car. The voltage should be more than 13.5 volts, if it's any less than the alternator isn't charging the battery. Good luck!

1997 Nissan Quest wont start

If you tried jumping it and it still doesn't start, then it's not your battery. There may be a problem with the solenoid/starter. Try tapping the starter a few times with a metal object (tire wrench or something), but not too hard. Then try starting it again.

1999 Pontiac Sunfire won't even turn over, but the

The radio will work even with a dying or discharged battery.

First, be sure to check all of your fuses in the engine compartment.

A full battery will keep the headlights bright with the engine off. With a dying or discharged battery, the headlights will be noticeably dim.

When you turn the key to crank the engine, does the starter try to turn or make a fast clicking? If so, the battery if low or dying. If it makes a slow click then stops, then it's REALLY dying.

If you don't have a battery charger, go to Walmart and get some jumper cables. Hook up a friend's car to yours. If it starts, then the battery was low, either from a bad battery or a bad alternator.

If it doesn't, you have electrical problems, possibly a bad starter or starter solenoid.

Truck won't start

You should check your battery cables with an ohmmeter and see if they have any resistance, they should be at 0 ohms or just alittle over, but could possibly be the starter solenoid also.I had this same problem with my Toyota last year, hard starting sometimes needed a jump and then the alt went bad, turned out to be the solenoid was shorting intermittantly.Hope this helps.

Starter motor just clicks, not cranking : knowledge question

you mention it almost started which suggest the motor turned over... if it did that it's not seized. i would hook the jumpers on for about 15 minutes before you even attempt to start the car. if the starter still won't work... hit it with a hammer as you attempt to start it... if it starts up you likely need a new starter.

2003 VW Golf won't start - battery was charged

You need to charge your battery up more. Either get a battery charger or leave the jumper cables hooked up for a longer period of time.
Your battery was probably completely dead. You might even need a new battery...they really don't like to be completely drained.
