Question about Volkswagen Jetta

1 Answer

2004 Jetta sedan, 1.8 TDI, about 38000 miles, manual transmission. Always use premium gas (91 octane or above) from name-brand stations. Last serviced in Oct 2010 -- oil change, new tires, new brakes (discs and rotors replaced; calipers not replaced). Today (1/3/11) the MIL light came on for the first time. It stays on steadily when I'm idling or traveling at 25 mph or less; blinks when I'm going over 30 mph. Also, the car shudders in low gears and sometimes even at higher speeds (45 mph and above). Need to drive back to Boston from New Jersey ASAP but don't want to risk it with the MIL light blinking all the way. Please help! Thanks very much.

You use premium gas in a TDI? Run that by me again? A TDI is a diesel engine car. What don't I understand here? I'm not being a smart __s but this just does not make sense. If you have put gasoline in a TDI, DO NOT DRIVE IT. Tow it to a dealer.

Should a 2002 jetta tdi- automatic at 87,000 miles

That specific transmission is known for failure. Sometimes it's premature failure (in your case) and sometimes they have 150k miles, but that specific automatic transmission will always fail.
There are plenty of stories online about premature failure of the 01M VW transmission...

CAN YOU USE REGULAR GAS IN A 2006 LEXUS GX470?

Only short term when absolutely necessary...

Your owner's manual says:
"
Fuel selection:
Select premium unleaded gasoline with an Octane Rating
of 91 (Research Octane Number 96) or higher for optimum
engine performance. However, if such premium type
cannot be obtained, you may temporarily use unleaded
gasoline with an Octane Rating as low as 87 (Research
Octane Number 91)."

Getting better gas milage....

Hey there, well if its anything like mine(91 cressy) its pretty thirsty! but things worth checking(if u havnt already) are the engine timing, fuel filter, air filter, as they will make a huge differnce. still im getting 11L per 100 around town, and i dont exactly flog it. and about the octane, i realy wouldnt worry too much if its just the non turbo version, although sticking to 91octane or above is always a good idea. usually only costs a few extra dollars a tank for 98 octane here in Australia, so i think its worth it.

What type of gas should i use in a 2005 lincoln navigator?

HI. i recommend using the premium in this vehicle. This will ensure optimal performance. The fuel system will accept the regular blend as well but, this is not what this vehicle was engineered for. the regular blends octane level is not sufficient for optimal acceleration and overall performance.

Please rate and god bless:)

Service engine light came on after i put in gas other than premium

Your car does not require premium fuel. If you have a lead foot and live in a hilly area, it's possible you're causing knock. Best bet... check that your gas cap is tight.
