Question about 2004 Mazda MPV

1 Answer

Expierincing extremly poor gas mileage-close to half of normal. i have replaced all six plugs and cleaned plenum , air filter is clean, all conections appear complete and correct. i have run fuel injecter cleaner through the gas tank and plan on doing so again. over the the last three years i have replaced three of the poorly manufactured coils. I understand the fuel filter is located in the fuel tank , is that correct and is that filter a likely source for this problem--whats the difficulty level of replacement if so ? Is there an electronic control for the fuelinjecter system and might this be the problem ? Wev ' e already had itin the shop twice  ------Any thoughts , ideas , suggestions would be really appreciated , thanks , Tom

Poor fuel milage

try changing fuel filter and making sure tire pressure is correct keep your car clean so air can flow freely and try an oil change all these factor into good gas mileage and you could try adding new plug wires to your tune up

2004 mercury sable gs just had new plugs and wires since then 1 week the car start to chug after it warms .it chugs for 5-10 seconds then seems to be ok it did it twice today car has 132,000 miles.any...

Should have had the air and fuel filter replaced with the tune up. Also, Noone does this that I know of, Except me, Remove the air induction plenum and clean the Mass Air Flow sensor And clean the throttle bottle and the throttle plates on the back side. Doing these things only will give the car a tune up and better gas mileage. If you clean these yourself, use brake cleaner and do not use a brush on the Mass Air Flow sensor.

Poor gas milage

Poor gas mileage can have many roots but the best way is always to start with the ignition system. Have a look at the sparkplugs, if you've got the I6 4.0 engine it is easy to check them. Spark plugs are cheap and easy to replace. Also check the spark plug wires, be sure the connections are tight and free from rust. Check the distributor cap and rotor and if they are rusty/greasy clean them up. After you've cleaned and checked the ignition items (spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor) you can move on to the fuel injection system.
Replace the air filter, it is cheap and most people overlook that single item.

When was the last time you replaced the fuel filter? A clogged fuel filter reduces power drastically which in turn affects fuel mileage.

Tune Time.
1)new spark plugs properly gapped.
2)new air filter (check every 35000 miles)
3)new fuel filter (every 35000 miles)
4)1 bottle of STP fuel treatment (red bottle) 4x a year.
5) oil and filter change (castrol or another good quality oil every 3-4000 miles.
6)proper air pressure in tires (check every 2 months
7) service transmission every 40000 miles or less.

New oil and filter
8) new plug wires every 80000 miles.

What is the gas mileage on our s-10 zr2

usualy it is 20 miles to the gallon and to improve your gas mileage i would do a tune up... spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter. and add tune up in a can its only like $4.00 from autozone. and also replace your airfilter, add air to your tires like 35 psi. and clean your fuel system .
