Time has come to pay someone to pull the motor out and replace the clutch, do all the clutch components and resurface the flywheel. If the pedal is up then you do not have an actuator/hydraulic failure, your problem lies within the bellhousing. do some research for clutch kits, i have seen several on ebay for less than a hundred bucks. labor is not going to be cheap.

I am trying to replace the clutch in a 1996 cavalier, I have both axles off, the transaxle bolts out, the motor mount off, the pressure off the motor, I have about a 1 inch gap in the transaxle housing ,...

Remove the speedometer cable and any wiring that is attached to the transaxle.

Reattach the clutch cable and use the pedal to leverage against the clutch pressure plate, which will move the transaxle away from the engine a few inches. From there, you should be able to remove it by hand.

Don't allow the transaxle's input shaft to hang on the new clutch, it will bend it and cause serious problems.

When Shifting gears on my 2000 saturn sc1, I have to step on my gas pedal to where its about 3500 rpm's before I get any acceleration. what is causing this?

If it is a manual transmission, it is the clutch or pressure plate slipping.
If it is an automatic, the transmission is bad.

1998 Saturn SC1 manuel stick is hard to shift into 1st & 2nd gear

Try to double clutch the clutch pedal. How to double clutch; push the clutch in moving the stick to neutral, then release the clutch and then push it back in and shift into first or second gear. If it works then it is not the shift linkage and could be a clutch adjustment. First how far do you have to release the clutch pedal until the clutch plate starts to engage? If only an inch or so the clutch pedal needs to be adjusted, which is an easy fix (this is more common). The other possible problems could be the clutch plate, throwout bearing of syncros could be bad. If it is one of the previous problems double clutching should buy you some time.

1997 Saturn SC1 with manual transmission, slipping when driving. Not sure if it is clutch, tranny or something else. Replaced speed sensor in axle/diff and improved but still there.

you can check if its the clutch by puting car in 4th gear and releasing clutch pedal slowly if the pedal travels a long way out and the engine just spins then its the clutch.

2000 sc1 saturn trouble shifting manual transmissioninto all gears, it will not go in right away but it shifts into gear the second push. In the drive way it shifts into all gears just fine.

If your able to shift with the car off sitting in your driveway but not able to shift once the engine is running then you have one of several possible problems.

Problem 1) Possible clutch hydraulics problem where the hydraulics are not completely disengaging the clutch.

Problem 2) Clutch pressure plate fingers could be tired and not allowing the pressure plate to disengage the friction disc off the flywheel.

Problem 3) Not likely but depending on the abuse of the car, the synchros could be shot.

If the car has a decent amount of miles on it and is driven in the city a lot then Problem 1 and 2 are most likely the problem. So either way it's time to check some hydraulics or replace the clutch.

Bleed the clutch

No way to bleed the clutch system. You need to buy a clutch master/Slave assy from saturn.Comes completely full of fluid & ready to install. It has retainers to hold slave pin in place until fully installed.Once installed you push the pedal & you will hear a faint click which is the slave retainer breakaways relieving. No other way to bleed although aftermarket parts house will sell you individual pieces.hope this helps
