My 92 is a 5.0 w/air and a 5 speed man. I'm having a problem with over charging I have replaced the alt. and battery and have the starter checked I am wondering if theres an other voltage reg other than the one in the alt. or some other thing that could be the problem it only happens if the car has'nt been used for a couple of days or if its cold.

OK, I know I'm going to get a low score for this. but how can you tell if a battery is being overcharged? I'm not trying to be smart or anything. If you really believe it's being overcharged, I'd like to know more.

Because I have a voltage on the dash gauge cluster and the needle is is fine at idle but as soon as I give it a little gas it goes all the way over to the 18 volt side .

Assuming the voltmeter is correct, I don't think that would be a problem. Unless of course It's causing light bulbs to burn out or blowing fuses.

Battery light on, got new alt., starter tries to engage, but doesnt

Did you have the charging system diagnosed or did you just guess at it being the alternator . The charging system is computer controlled . The starter isn't working because low power , battery dead . Is there B+ voltage at the wire on the back of the alternator .B+ voltage at pin 3 at the connector pluged into the alternator .
Charge the battery use a volt meter an test for B+ voltage at the places i mention . No check engine light ? DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored .

Alternator won't charge why?

I have a 94 f250 7.5, but it doesn't really matter for this. I have'nt seen much newer ones, but this should help.
I'm guessing you've cleaned your batt posts and tested the battery to see if it still can output roughly 9v to 16 volts under load(cranking), right.
On the back of the alt you will see a three pin(what you should have) plastic elec connector. Now if you take a close look at where that plugs into, you will see that the housing is plastic as well, and it's pretty large, with just two hex head screws holdng iti n. Now get a volt meter, set it to dc at the 200V setting and, while the truck is turned on, not running, check the voltage on the two hex heads (9v to 16v) Now start the truck, and carefull check voltage. If it about the same, the alt is bad. If it's different, battery could be bad. But, before you run out and spend all that money for new battery or new alt, shut truck down let cool a bit and check the connections at the starter. It may be oxidized. If you see a white-green buildup, remove wire leads and clean with wire brush or similar. Coat connections with some anti ox. This condition will also inhibit you system from charging.
If alt is bad, just replace it, the inverters/ regulators are so poorly made for all brands of vechicles today, it's better to replace the whole alt. I will try to follow this post. so if this doesn't solve your prob, repost

My alternator wont charge my battery. both are new, new fuses, and wires and cables

Hi Paula, As both the battery and alternator have been replaced, there are only few remaining reasons why the alternator will not charge. Make sure of the socket connection being fitted correctly and that there is a good connection on each of the connectors inside the connector. Check and make sure the earth earth connection between the battery and the engine is correct and that both ends are tightened correctly. Inspect the 'Alt' fuse in the fuse holder and also the fusible link. Also make sure that the belt is tight. Regards John

92 Isuzu trooper.... Alternator went out.. Replaced it.. Charged battery.. Started.. Ran for 10 mins no problem.. Turned it off.. Now it won't start.. I was told maybe needs new starter??? Any other

Check to see if the battery is really getting charged when the engine is running. Also find that the relay wirings to the relay from the alternator broken. The function of this relay is to turn those dash lights off and supply current to turn the air con relay on when the alternator is charging, also you will find that your air con and fans wont turn on either. this relay acts like a self preservation for the battery if the alternator fails cuting out things that draw a lot of current.
