Disconnect the positive terminal and re-connect it. is there a spark on post ? if yes, something is draining it

have alternator checked at auto parts store. I bought an alternator at P.B.'s
auto parts after the second one was bad had next two tested yep had four bad alternators right off the self fifth one was good. if alternator is good look for pinched wire or wire grounded on cars frame causing a constant drain on battery
or small light not shutting off like glove box light, light down by foot, light under hood or back up light staying on.

Ok i have a 1982 Ford F-250 with a 351 and the battery is constantly dying ive replaced the alternator and the first one was bad and got a new one had them test it it was good i also had them trinkle...


Sounds like a voltage regulator problem. It's a little 3'x3' square metal box that some wires plug into. It's usually mounted beside the raidiator and next to the battery.

I have a 2004 545i BMW. I have a new battery and don't leave the key in the ignition. What is causing my battery to die.


Most likely a short or the Alternator is not properly charging the battery and electrical system. First check the wires that go to the starter and lead from the battery to the Alternator for any breaks or possible shorts that are allowing the Positive wires to ground. If those are good, disconnect the battery positive wire and connect the jumper cable directly to the positive cable and jump the vehicle. Once it is running disconnect the jumper cable and test the voltage on the positive wire to see what the alternator is sending as a charge to the battery. Anything less than 12 v is an obvious problem and I believe it should charge at 14v but you would have to check the book on that. Your other option would be to remove the alternator and have it tested at one of the Auto parts stores that offer to do that, Auto Zone and Advance Auto come to mind. If there are no shorts and the Alternator is good then that leaves the Alarm system and interior lights as being the problem and you will have to isolate those areas for shorts or constant connections. You may have accidentally set your interior lights to constant on which would bypass the timer system if you have one. Check the dash brightness control knob to make sure it isn't turned all the way to one side or the other. This position typically sets the interior lights to constant on.

there is no connection with the battery drain to the gear box issue., the reson the engine dies out must be checked.
So when this happens you might have to see the alternator or the rectifier/regulator is showing errors or a error in the sensors detecting a fault.
It is good to have the scheduled service , the codes checked for any errors for evaluating .Check the charging voltage/current to the battery.

My battery light came on and my battery dies like i aint getting a charge and when i charge the battery it starts everytime alternater is good what could it be


How do you know alternator is good?
Put in a cheap volt gauge.
Should read 12.5 normal.
Down to 10 starting.
Back to 12.5 at idle.
Up to 13.5 when engine revved up.

But battery low on water will not hold charge.
Could also have internal short.
Volt gauge will show.

Could also have something staying on, like engine or trunk compartment light?
Pull one battery terminal, and see if test light lights up across gap. If it does, even weak, you have a constant drain. Could be alternator. When diodes go bad, alternator can drain battery. Disconnect things until light goes out.
