Instant economy displays 99 when idling.

did you scan the PCM for DTC errors? first? if not why not?
this toy only works when all else works, so....
if not ,ask the dealer.
when going zero miles per hour there is no MPG.
do the math, ?
distant traveled divided by fuel consumed is.
0 div / fuel rate = 0 see? 0 /1000 is 0,

I made my own tool and it shows 200 for that and 200 for divide by zero. (when you drive and cut throttle the injectors cut fuel so fuel is zero, causing divide zero errors. ( 10 miles / 0 is ( div by zero error)
so i trap both those errors, in my software, with 200 flag , the 200 means, (can not compute MPG) see? or I could use 999.

since i didn't design the jeep PCM , i cant tell you there traps.
its just toy. but is ok cruising, use that when moving,
MPG stopped is 0.

have you tried cut fuel mode yet?
drive fast , cut throttle, hot engine, in gear, and fuel is 0 flow.
try that, and watch what it does, what you see is what you get.
my other car , with full obd2 tools, shows 190 mpg.
and is real.
see that here. buddies, top scan tool live data. and plot.
http://www.fixkick.com/my96-16v/fuel-MAF-VSS.JPG

some cars use injector pulse width (flow) to compute MPG
other use MAF air flow. and reverse compute injector rates, (tricky ask)
does this help?
my 2002 jeep has my home made MPG gauge from scratch.

Have 1983 Toyota combi with 18R engine. Carburetor thirsty, checked/reset several times. Is there any cure for thirsty engine, is there any substitute carburetor model (fuel-miser?) available? I

Well I'm not quite sure what your asking, I think your saying that your carb bowl is running out of fuel. Sounds like your carb needs a good cleaning. Poss. A clogged fuel filter, or on the outside low fuel pressure.

German cars are weird. Changing a battery can disable many things. It will have to be reset by computer. Don't be surprised if you have to go to the stealer dealer for that.

Renault Laguna 2 2001 1600 16v misfiring. Sluggish going uphill, makes a load clacking sound when the accelerator is pressed but stops when coasring, cuts out when it comes to a stop

Seems quite evident that the firing timing is OFF and the fuel tuning needs a check. The engine seems to hunt around when it is accelerated as it is pinking/knocking when powered. So please have the timing of the firing checked, check the electrical section of the ignition, check the spark plugs, the HT wires.
Now also make sure that the fuel pressure is good , the fuel is good grade and the filter is clean.

first thing to try is redexe fuel injector cleaner at 1 can to 1/2 tank diesel, then see if you need to anything else.......(start with the cheapest solution first..)

Chevrolet captiva 2.0 lt poor mpg captiva has

I also have a Chevy Captiva 2L Diesel but with the auto box. The MPG on that one is abysmally bad! I bought it a few weeks ago with just under 30K miles on the clock (2007 model), and it returns around 230 miles on a full tank! That's around 17 MPG and probably on par with a Hummer!!
I was expecting the auto box to be less efficient than the manual of course but not to consume twice as much. Anyone out there with any ideas as to why this could be? I was actually already checking under the car to see if it loses fuel... We live in the suburbs and our trips can be considered a mix of urban and extra urban (they are admittedly on the short side and from a cold winter start; still, this doesn't justify the extremely low MPG). The car seems adequately powered for its weight and considering the small'ish engine and auto box.
Thanks!

We have replaced our 02 sensors twice initally it

Having owned and thoroughly enjoyed an 01 Durango SLT plus for 6 years, congrats on having the "D".

How many miles on your D? Aging O2 sensors can cause mileage to drop. Which engine do you have? The 4.7 or the 5.9?

You will pretty much find that 11-13 mpg in town is the norm, and 17 is normal for hwy cruising. Towing though in either case will have quite an effect.

Ihave a C2500/ext cab long bed,GVR8600LBS w/7.4 vortec 4L80E and 4.10 gears.Iget 9 MPG Iwould like to get better gas mileage and more performance.[where do i start].

I have the same engine. I installed a banks powerpack on it and now I get about 14 on the highway and about 11 city. First thing is a tune up, plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, and that sorta stuff. I gutted my intake to let the engine breath better. The banks system opened up the exhaust quite a bit and it has alot more power and get better mileage. A chip can add some fuel economy as well. Any more than simple stuff like that, you'll start getting into serious money. My banks powerpack was $1800 and got me about 2mpg city and about 3 mpg highway improvement. Not much better on fuel but it did get alot more power which means I can be lighter on the gas pedal.
