Question about Kia Spectra

The car is emitting black smoke which is smelly. In these days (winter) when the engine is not warmed up, on starting it produce a shower of black oily water. When consulted a mechanic, he informed that carborator requires replacement. New carborator is not available in the market and used can be found on a very extensive search and that too in a high price....... so what should I do? Is the carborator repairable ?

Yes and the mechanic is in error in needing a new one
carbys can be overhauled by an accredited mechanic so maybe you be taking it to another shop
the black smoke is over fuelling or the choke stuck on or out of adjustment and the water is condensation formed during the combustion process in a cold motor
get the make and model and search e-bay for carby kits

hi after reading your problem i gather the water pump blew you lost water the car overheated you say it had a brand new cylinder head and the cars still losing water and causing it to overheat and the garage say its the same problem as before yet they won,t do the job because it needs a bottom end ;engine block] so why when they had the head off was this not checked for level and signs of cracking . to be fair to the garage it something that is often overlooked . but that said if this is the problem that occured after three days of buying you are entitled to have the work gaurenteed for 12 months unless otherwise stated i can see there warrenty company won,t want to pay for it as they already paid the garage to do the job [CORRECTLY] the garage had no right to sell a faulty car in the first place and secondly they have been paid by your warrenty company to repair it it is not the warrentys companys fault the garage didnt do what was required in the first place but its not yours either so i would read what your warrenty agreement is and see if it states they won,t pay twice for the same job if not phone them up tell them the only reason you bought the car is because of the warrenty and it is not your fault the job was done properly in the first place and expect the car to be repaired as it should have been in the first place and its up to them and the garage to decide which one of them pays tell them what the garage mechanic said about its allright to drive and i have no idea what book tells you to ignore warning lights but should be shot then go to the garage tell them you want it putting right and you don,t care wheather its under warrenty or the garages oblgation not sell defective vechicles it is up to the garage to put it right or give you your money back if the problem arises within a reasonable amount of time usually seven days tell them to put it in writing if they refuse to do the job if they refuse get a wittness to this and tell them it needs puting right and will be taking to another garage getting it repaired and am giving you the first chance to repair it as stated in law then the bill will forwarded to them an have you took finance out on it or did you pay cash if finance phone them up tell them the problems your having and are going to stop payments until the car is fixed REMEMBER THE GARAGE DEPENDS ON THE FINANCE AND WARRENTY COMPANYS THEY WILL NOT WANT TROUBLE FROM THEM BECAUSE THEY WITH DRAW THERE BACKING THE GARAGE WON,T SELL THER CARS HENCE OUT OF WORK i bet your a newcastle supporter as well with this kind of luck if you let them get away with it your as daft as a brush find out where to report the garage i think it is the office of fair trading and if they won,t bend i will be amazed yates210456

I have the same problem. Do you have a DSG transmission? There are complaints on VW clubs about this problem. It seemed like an engine control issue but it is actually a confused transmission in my case. It seems to have trouble engaging and must send a signal to the engine to kill power. Recalibrating the transmission with VAG-COM made the problem go from a 3x daily issue to a weekly one. I have read that the DSG is very sensitive to oil levels. I am going to set mine properly and see if it helps. The calibration/adaptation only takes 10 minutes with VAG-COM

The plenum problem should not affect compression tests. It allows oil to get sucked into the intake and will cause carbon buildup, plug fouling, and pinging. If you have zero compression on a cylinder, it is usually a valve problem. Even a burned piston will make some compression, unless it has a big hole in the middle.
Sorry, but if your compression results are to be trusted (and it seems they are), then you have to tear a head off to find the problem, or at least get a borescope in it.

I have a Brute Force 750, starts OK but runs rough after a few minutes, will start smoking a smelly black/gray smoke, and most recently some blue smoke.


When the head gasket fails on a liquid (water) cooled engine the typical smoke colour is white (steam) and that becomes rather underlined by the steady drop of the coolant level and often clear evidence combustion gas is leaking into the cooling system.

Smelly black/grey smoke tends to be produced by an over-fuelling condition such as a stuck choke or strangler or other cold starting aid or perhaps carburettor flooding.

Blue or blue/grey smoke is invariably engine oil burning but I suggest you ignore that until the black smoke problem is rectified and after a short time the blue smoke might also disappear. If it doesn't it could be related to the overheating but the black smoke probably wasn't caused by that...

Black smoke is caused by excess fuel that has entered the cylinder area and cannot be burned completely. Another term for excess fuel is "running rich." Poor fuel mileage is also a common complaint when black smoke comes out of the tailpipe. Black smoke out the tailpipe is the least cause for alarm. Excess fuel will usually effect engine performance, reduce fuel economy, and produce a fuel odor.

How did the fuel get into the cylinder in the first place? Some of the causes of excess fuel are a carburetor that is out of adjustment, a faulty fuel pump, a leaky fuel injector, or a faulty engine computer or computer sensor. If black smoke is present, check the engine oil as in the white smoke example to make sure excess fuel has not contaminated it. Do not start the engine if a heavy, raw fuel smell can be detected in the engine oil. Call your mechanic and advise him of what you have found.

My vehicle is producing lots of smoke... What does this means?


The three most common colors of smoke that can be emitted from the engine and billow from the tailpipe are as follows:
1. White
2.Black
3.Blue..

Each one has its own cause and its meaning .Kindly let us know what color smoke are you getting.

I've changed the oxygen sensor and the O2 sensor and new plugs on my 97 dondge 3.9 van and it still blowen black smoke (rich) seems to run real good on top end but theres is a flat spot where theres no...


Black smoke indicates no air, check your air filter, if you have done that and it is ok, check the PCV valve. Thats about all that I can suggest. Hope that helps.

Smoke emitted from the engine area


If your oil is turning milky and smoke is coming from the engine check to see if your exhaust smoke is blowing white. If it is, you've got a blown head gasket. Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but good luck.

Car hard to start. Car will emit


You could need a tune up. Remove a few of the spark plugs and look to see if they are black with carbon (black hard and flaky residue) or black with oil. When you check it, make sure its sat for at least half the day, but a full day would be best. If its covered in oil then you have bad valve guides and could require major engine work, or just some valve seals to stop the leak. The bucking and backfires could be caused by a faulty TPS or ignition module. Its a start.
