Question about Land Rover Range Rover

I'm after the an assembly diagram for a wabco brake master cylinder for a 1999 Rang Rover not the main piston assembly I have that one but the two booster ones on the side. Regards Jim

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

This will just be easy. Once you remove the bolts underneath the dash of the driver's side you can remove the hose fittings then insert the new one and repeat the procedure on reverse order. After installation you will need to bleed the fluid out till there's no air on the fluid line.

What other cars are interchangeable with a 1999 mazda 626


Purchase a rebuild kit or go to a wreckers and buy the complete master cylinder / booster.. One of the problems with getting a kit is that the master cylinder piston may need to be skimmed on a lathe to get it perfectly smooth and round again, and may need undersized seals and o rings. Probably easier to get the assembly from a wrecker. Alternatively, I would suggest go to a brake specialist. Brakes are too important to play with.

If the fluid level in your Brake Master Cylinder Reservoir is full, one of the piston seals in your your Brake Master Cylinder may have failed. You will need to replace your Brake Master Cylinder.

Have a 99 Toyota camry n brake light is on after changing right front brake caliper


Master cylinder fluid piston has entered into a brake safe mode.
when the high pressure brake system is opened in any way, the brake master cylinder piston reaches to the far end of the master cylinder which trips the brake system warning light.

This brake light condition is due to sudden loss of brake fluid pressure on the right front brake caliper assembly during the replacement.

Left rear brake caliper bleed valve will ned to be "opened" until master cylinder piston travels into the opposite direction which "resets" the brake system warning light.

Dot 4 brake fluid recommened for most, but not all vehicles.
Reference vehicle to owners manual for replacement fluid is replaced under master cylinder brake system cap.

... sounds like a broken brake line or broken linkage in pump/master cylinder ..... need more info, do you still have brake fluid in the reservoir?

The rear brake piston won,t go in with a clamp


normally, you need to remove a small portion of brake fluid from the master cylinder before doing this procedure, then after you remove the brake caliper, and brake assembly, then take your c clamp, and a small piece of a 1/1 wood and lay the 1/1 across the piston area, and put the 1 end of the c clamp onto the piece of wood, and start turning the c clamp handle , the piston should go back into the caliper, if not, then it sounds like the piston has froze. when this happens, there are times a person has to replace the caliper, if piston can not be pushed inward.

How do you get the capierer pin off to put front brake pads on my Mercury Sable LS?


Section 06-03: Brakes, Front Disc 1999 Taurus, Sable Workshop Manual REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION Brake Shoe and Lining Removal
  1. Remove brake master cylinder filler cap (2162). Check fluid level in brake master cylinder reservoir (2K478) . Remove brake fluid until brake master cylinder reservoir is half full. Discard removed fluid.
  1. Raise vehicle on hoist.
  1. Remove wheel and tire assembly from front disc brake rotor mounting face. Use care to avoid damage or interference with disc brake caliper (2B120) , front disc brake rotor shield (2K004) or front wheel knuckle (3K185) .
  1. Remove rear brake pin retainers (2N386).
  1. NOTE: It is not necessary to disconnect hydraulic connections.

    Lift disc brake caliper from front disc brake caliper anchor plate (2B292) and front disc brake rotor (1125) . Do not pry directly against metal caliper piston or damage will occur.
  1. NOTE: To prevent damage, do not allow disc brake caliper to hang by the front brake hose (2078) .

    Position disc brake caliper out of the way.
  1. Remove inner outer brake shoe and lining (2001) assembly from front disc brake caliper anchor plate .
  1. Inspect both rotor braking surfaces. Minor scoring or buildup of lining material does not require machining or replacement of front disc brake rotor.

How do i change front brake pad on this car merecy sable 1989 -99


Remove the wheel, remove the 2 bolts holding on the caliper to the caliper carrier. You will need a large C-Clamp or a cailper piston tool. Place an old brake pad against the piston in the caliper and use the C-Clamp to push the brake pad against the piston to collapses the piston into the caliper. Also open the master cylinder cap and place a towel around the area to catch any brake fluid that would come out of the master cylinder as you collapes the piston, this is normal, but doesn't always happen, depending on the level of fluid in the master cylinder. Install the new pads and reinstall the caliper and wheel. Make sure you pump the brake pedal a few times before you take off, to get the pads against the rotor.

I want to repair the brakes on a 1999 Chrysler Town & Country minivan - Would like instructions and a picture/diagram, if possible.


Chrysler Caravan/Voyager/Town and Country 1996-1999

CAUTION
Older brake pads or shoes may contain asbestos, which has been determined to be cancer causing agent. Never clean the brake surfaces with compressed air! Avoid inhaling any dust from any brake surface! When cleaning brake surfaces, use a commercially available brake cleaning fluid.
  1. Remove brake fluid from the master cylinder brake fluid reservoir until the reservoir is approximately 1/2 full. Discard the removed fluid.
  2. Raise and safely support the of the vehicle. Remove the wheels.
  3. Remove the brake caliper assembly that requires brake pad replacement.
  4. Support the caliper out of the way with a strong piece of wire. Do not let the caliper hang by the brake hose or damage to the brake hose will result.
  5. If necessary, compress the caliper piston into the bore using a C-clamp. Insert a suitable piece of wood between the C-clamp and caliper piston to protect the piston.
  6. Remove the outboard disc brake pad from the caliper by prying the brake pad retaining clip over the raised area on the caliper. Slide the brake pad down and off the caliper.
  7. Remove the inboard disc brake pad from the caliper by pulling the brake pad away from the caliper piston until the retaining clip on the pad is free from the caliper piston cavity.
To install:
  1. Be sure the caliper piston has been completely retracted into the piston bore of the caliper assembly. This is required when installing the brake caliper equipped with new brake pads.
  2. If equipped, remove the protective paper from the noise suppression gaskets on the new disc brake pads.
  3. Install the new inboard disc brake pad into the caliper piston by pressing the pad firmly into the cavity of the caliper piston. Be sure the new inboard brake pad is seated squarely against the face of the brake caliper piston.
  4. Install the outboard disc brake pad by sliding it onto the caliper assembly.
  5. Install the brake caliper assembly.
  6. Install the wheels and lug nuts. Torque the lug nuts, in a star pattern sequence, to 95 ft. lbs. (129 Nm). Apply the brake pedal several times until a firm pedal is obtained.
  7. Check the fluid level in the master cylinder and add fluid as necessary. Road test the vehicle.

Welcome to the techie column for the Fall edition of 
the Rover News. In this column, we’re going to look 
at some of the common problems with the antilock 
brakes on Discovery II models. The Discovery II electronic 
braking system, called SLABS (self leveling anti 
lock braking), is made by Wabco of Germany. Wabco 
is a subsidiary of American Standard, a company better 
known to the public for toilets than brakes. In the 
automotive field, Wabco specializes in braking and 
suspension systems for trucks. According to the company, 
two out of three commercial vehicles with 
advanced braking systems are equipped with Wabco 
products. 
The Land Rover system includes four-wheel 
antilock braking, hill descent control, and four-wheel 
traction control. The SLABS control unit also controls 
the self-leveling suspension, if the vehicle has that feature. 
The Discovery air suspension is also a Wabco 
product. As an aside, Wabco air suspension is also 
found in the new Audi A6 and the Mercedes CLS. 
One of the most common ABS questions I 
hear is, Why do I see the ABS, Traction 
Control, and Hill Descent lights coming on? 
All three of those systems share a common set of 
core components. The wheel speed sensors, the hubs, 
the modulator, the controller, and other parts serve all 
three systems. So a fault in any one of them will cause 
a problem in the other two. It is actually rare to have 
a fault that would only disable one of the three systems. 
99% of the time, if one is affected, they all are. 
To see what’s wrong, you will need to connect a 
Land Rover test system and read the faults. These systems 
are not OBD II compatible, so a generic scanner 
won’t talk to them. At Robison Service, we use the T4 
or Autologic tools for this work. 
The most common faults are wheel speed 
sensor faults. The wheel speed sensors in a Land 
Rover are coils that sense the motion of a toothed 
wheel that’s a part of the wheel hub. The rotation of 
the wheel induces a sine wave signal in the sensor 
whose frequency is proportional to the speed, and 
whose amplitude increases with speed from 0.5 volts 
to more than 5 volts. 
If your Rover has a speed sensor fault, there are 
two paths to repair. The first is to replace the entire 
hub on the affected corner. This is the approach 
favored by dealers because the toothed wheel – called 
a reluctor ring – and the actual sensor are both part 
of the hub. The reluctor can get damaged by rust or 
corrosion, and it can also get damaged by a bad wheel 
bearing. The only way to service it is to change the 
hub. 
As of this writing, hubs (front-RND646 / rear-RND694) 
cost around $400 and take about three hours to 
change. 
The sensor can be removed from the hub fairly 
easily. If you remove your sensor and look inside you 
should be able to see if the reluctor ring is damaged. 
The reluctor ring can get damaged if the wheel bearing 
gets loose. It can also get damaged by corrosion. 
That’s especially true for Rovers that run on beaches. 
If you see reluctor ring damage, or corrosion, or if the 
hub has any free play at all – you need a complete 
assembly. If there is no damage, you may be able to 
fix the vehicle by changing the sensor (front-RN292 / 
rear-RNH293) alone, a $100 part that’s less than an hour 
to swap. 
The path you choose should be determined by 
examination of the reluctor via the sensor hole. If the 
hub looks good, there’s an “8 or 10” odds that a sensor 
alone will fix your problem. 
Every now and then you will see a Rover that has 
wiring problems, usually at the connector between ABS 
sensor and body. Always pull it apart and look for 
corrosion. 
The next common fault in these systems 
is called shuttle valve failure. The shuttle valve 
is a part of the brake modulator – that big thing in the 
location where a master cylinder would be. The modulator 
incorporates the functions of an ABS servo and 
a brake master cylinder into one unit. 
If you have shuttle valve problems, you will see 
the three warning lights on the dash and there will be 
one or more stored faults for shuttle valve failure. 
Land Rover has a test procedure to determine if these 
faults result from a failure in the modulator or if they 
are caused by wiring troubles in the ABS harness or 
grounds. Unless you have corroded grounds and 
cables, your trouble is probably in the modulator. 
Until now, this problem was addressed by 
replacement of the brake modulator (RNH082). That’s a 
$1,500 part. As you can imagine, shuttle valve failure 
produced a lot of unhappy owners and Land Rover 
finally listened up and developed a fix. 
As of March 2006, Land Rover sells a shuttle 
valve repair kit for under $100. You will have to 
remove the modulator and flip it over to install the 
valves on a workbench. Removal of the modulator, 
replacement of the valve, and refit to the vehicle takes 
three hours or so. 
This shuttle valve repair is a huge improvement 
over the former method of addressing this problem. 
The part number for the repair kit is (SW0500030). 
If you buy it from a dealer you may also want to ask 
for the March 2006 bulletin that gives test and installation 
instructions. 
Another common problem is a mushy 
brake pedal. In my experience, the only explanation 
for a mushy pedal is improper bleeding procedure. 
Bleeding a Discovery II takes two people and the Land 
Rover test system, and it takes the two of them a bit 
over half an hour. You need the tester to operate the 
pump and valves to make sure all the air is purged 
from the modulator. 
If you are paying for this service, expect a labor 
bill in the range of one and a half hours and $20-30 of 
brake fluid. If you are not at a dealer, make sure they 
use the correct Castrol LMA fluid. Don’t even start this 
process unless the shop has a tester to run the pump 
and valves. You could bleed brakes in the field without 
one in an emergency, but there is no way to get a 
really good pedal without cycling pump and valves. 
There is no shortcut for this job. You need two 
people and the Land Rover tester. 
We see quite a few stop lamp circuit 
problems. The usual way this problem manifests 
itself is a truck that won’t shift out of park. Discovery 
II models have an interlock that prevents shifting out 
of park unless the brake is pressed. So, if the brake 
light circuit fails, the car won’t go into gear. 
If that happens to you, the first step is to check 
the stop lamp fuse. We’ve seen several trucks where 
the stop lamps were fitted wrong, or the contacts corroded, 
and the fuse blew. Also check the trailer connector, 
if your Rover has one. A short there can pop 
fuses. 
If the fuses are good, you should check the stop 
lamp switch. It’s located above the brake pedal. If 
you are stuck somewhere, it is possible to get out of 
park by jumping the switch temporarily with a paper 
clip.

1999 honda accord ex v6


The back brakes on my Honda Accord are disc brakes. After removing the brake cylinder assembly you will see the brake cylinder piston end has a slot in it. The short pin on the back side of the inner brake pad fits into this slot, but also it is used to 'Turn' (clock-wise) the piston back into the cylinder so you fit the assembly back over the new 'thicker' pads. You can not 'press' this piston back into the cylinder.
