Question about Pontiac Bonneville

1 Answer

I had the battery replaced and it was fine but the next day the same problem occured, i craked it and ddrove it to a store came back out cranked it up and pulled away and it cut off and I couldnt restart it. A freind actually got it to crank and drove it by placing it in neutral at stop lights, but he said after a point it w asnt cutting off anymore. After a few hours, I drove the car again and it cut off again , I could not get it to turn over, it act like it wanted to but it wouldnt catch, so I had it towed back to my apartment, im on a fixed income and need to know if this could be an easy fix. or should i get rid of it , ty for any help

1997 Mercury Villager minivan, turns over, doesn't crank. I can hear the fuel pump hum on before turning key, but won't crank. starter fine, battery/cables fine, fuel fine. For a while it would do this,...

try starting in neutral and see if it helps. Could be a bad starter solenoid or corroded battery cables at battery. Clean the connections at the battery including the 2 small ones on the positive post.

I have a 1994 Pontiac Bonneville SSE.. won't start

It sounds like you have a short somewhere that is draining the battery...this type of thing is usually caused by a faulty voltage regulator. I recommend taking the alternator to an autoparts store to have it tested...don't be surprised if the alternator tests good; a faulty voltage regulator can and will drain a battery in a matter of hours. I am including a link where you can order a voltage regulator for your Bonneville or, while you are at the autoparts store, you can buy one there. The link will help you to see what the voltage regulator looks like so you can identify it in your engine compartment. Hope this helps, good luck!

Starter will not crank the engine. will start if you jump the starter. have 12v from both wires to starter. fuses are ok. what next ? ? ?

Have you had the battery checked ?
12 volts is good but you need craking amps..
If batt is good - starter could be bad..
not to hard to replace..

2004 also

Take the SUV to an autoparts store that features free charging diagnostic tests. They will determine if the alternator is putting out sufficient power to recharge your battery. There's also a very good chance your battery is dead. It's not uncommon for a battery to need replacing (especially in a truck with all the bells and whistles I'm sure the Santa Fe has) after 4-5 years. It's also important to ensure there's no corrosion around the battery posts/cables (will have a white or green powdery appearance). Corrosion would prevent the battery from accepting a full charge.

I hope this clarifies your problem. It's unlikely the alarm system is the culprit provided it's not "going off" all day long. Best of luck and please feel free to post back with any other questions.

My 1997 Dodge Avenger's engine won't start

Try cam and/or crank sensor. If crank to cam timing isn't detected properly it'll crank all day but won't start. I had similar problem on my 2.5L V6 Avenger....drove home fine, no engine light, next morning it cranked, but wouldn't start. The crank sensor was faulty.
