Question about Buick Park Avenue

1 Answer

I have a 1999 Buick Park Avenue Ultra, the super charger belt needs to be changed along with the seized pulley located behind the motor mount. The mount is located above the crank shaft, attached to the block with two upper and one lower horizontaly mounted studs. The motor mount is also attched to a frame mount with two vertical studs extending up about 2 1/2 inches. To remove the motor mount and dropping the motor, I observed, I would have to clear the 2 1/2 inch vertical studs and the frame in order to pull the mount off the 3 horizontal studs. I wanted to know if I'm over thinking the proceedure or I do have to go to drop the motor to this extent in order to remove the pulley.

I do have a question for you, if you remove the motor mount, can you change the pulley? If this is possible, you will need some jack stands, pieces of 2 by 4's and a hydraulic bottle jack. loosen the motor mount nuts and bolts( don't remove yet), with the bottle jack and a board, lift up the side of the engine(just enough to take pressure off the mount. now remove the mount. lift just a touch more, and set up the jack stands with boards on them(to support, and not damage the engine. also safety first). now lower the engine to the boards replace the pulley, and now go up with the engine, and replace the mount. I've done this on Toyota's,and think this may work for you also. hope this helps

How do I change the main serpentine belt on a supercharged 99 park avenue ultra?

On your idler pulley there is a 15mil bolt... put a wrench on this bolt (long wrench) and turn it like you are turning it tighter. The idler pulley will move forward releasing tension on your belt. Make sure you pull the belt off the alternator pulley when the idler pulley is compressed. You may want to pay attention to how the belt is on there, maybe 2 people would be a good idea too if you aren't familiar with your car.

Super charger noisy

If the s/c is making a knocking noise that goes away when the throttle is pushed, you could have a coupling problem. Remove the s/c belt, grab the pulley and quickly twist the pulley back and forth from the 10 to 2 positions. There should not be a clunking noise and slowly moving the pulley you should feel a drag while the rotors move, no drag immediately means the coupling is bad.

The power steering pump bolts are accessed through the holes in the pump pulley itself. There are usually three on the front and one on the back.
