So... what is the problem? Is it OVER heating? Not heating? Normal operating temperature for this vehicle is around 195 degrees.

Do you have a check engine light on ? If so Get codes first for a direction. Sounds like temp sender or coolant component is faulty.

What is the average temp for a 1996 Pontiac Gran Am 2.4 L 4 cyl? Any info would greatly be appreciated.

the engine temperature is 195 degrees when ran for 15 minutes or more with the correct thermostat installed

On 6/19/11 comeing from town I saw the temp got to about 215 checked the water its ok got home cooled down some removed cap started it up let run about 15 minutes did not see water moveing temp was about...

200 degrees is not hot; the radiator cooling fan shouldn't even come on until 210 degrees.

2000 Pontiac Grand AM little heat being produced.

1st thing to do is change the thermostat. It is either missing, or stuck open (you provide good info). This is why the car is not running at operating temp and why you have little heat. The no blower for settings 1-4 probably means a bad switch.

Onboard temp gauge

you need to go to the parts house and purchase an ambient temperature sensor. that is the sensor that tells the car what the outside temp. is. I hope that helps you out.

My mechanic in our town did a quick computer check. Car computer indicated a low level of antifreeze, he topped it up, cleared all messages off the car computer and said to watch the the heat guage for any further irregularities. I'll keep an eye on it, love the car, great mileage fun to drive.
