Either the idle air controller is malfunctioning or the Throttle position is-both are located next to each other on the back (firewall) side of the throttle body. If you remove the air tube from the air leaner, you can remove he throttle body:rotate the throttle bell crank and push the throttle cable out of the crank slot. Unbolt the throttle body (4-12mm bolts I think) and pull the throttle body enough that you can unplug the harnesses. The torx screws that hold the IAC and TPS can now be easily be removed. Clean everything with THROTTLE BODY CLEANER, and do a thorough job-especially the IAC, being careful not to spray the top half becasue it contains electronics that will not like being doused with any fluids. The TPS rarely shows lots of carbon buildup, but since you are there, check it out anyway.

All of this is assuming you do not have a check engine light-your problem is common on these cars and you should also replace the engine coolant sensor regularly on these cars, and the thermostat if the temp gauge is less than 1/4. I have one of these with 178,000 miles, they are great are but need some routine maintenance and a clean throttle body to run properly.

Saturn ls 2000 with v6 engine 26000 miles stalls when driven 3hrs. In 96 weather and idles unstable with air conditioner on it runs Iike it is to hot but temp gauge reads below halfway mark .

try unplugging map sencer, it should be on top side of engine, a black plastic box about 2 inches wide and 3 1/2 inches long, or throttle position sencer could be bad causing engine to idle from high to low. Hope this is some help 2 you.

Car stays on high idle

I have had this happen on saturns before and it has turned out to be a bad intake gasket. The gasket cracks allow extra air to get into the engine causing it to idle high. It also will normally have the check engine light come on indicating a cylinder misfire. 4 thumbs up is appreciated if this helps

In my 2000 Saturn SL1 I am experiencing very high idle (2000 rpm warm - higher cold). I have cleaned the throttle body and the idle air control valve with no improvement. What next, replace the idle air...

You could try replacing the idle air control valve but I would obtain one from a local salvage yard, its cheaper and you are not certain if thats the problem, another thing i would check is your intake manifold gasket where it meets the cylinder head, if tha gasket is cracked or leaking it will allow excess air to enter the engine and make it idle higher, the easiest way to verify this is get a can of carb and choke cleaner and spray it all around the intake gasket area, if the engines idling characteristics change drastically then the gasket is bad and needs to be replaced if theres no change in the idle I would start looking for vacumm leaks and the idle control valve issue, which you specified.

High RPM at idle or shift gears

My 94SW had the same problem, after changing many parts with no effect, the problem went away with a new MAP sensor. And my gas mileage went back to where it should have been.

Saturn 2001 SL idles in neutral between 2000 and 3000 after engine gets warmed up. also blower for heater has bad resistor were is it located so i can replace it?

high idle concern is probably caused by either a sticking throttle plate, defective IAC or the computer is commanding the high idle for another reason.

the blower motor is found behind the glove box in the HVAC case

After recharging with red tech 12a the compressor cuts in and out and the idle goes up and down. The gage on the low side at idle reads 55 and with the AC off goes up to 110.What did I do wrong?

You didn't state what year the car was. If it's in the 90's or 2000's, It takes the R134A freon, not the 12A, and it should have been charged on the low side, not the high side.

Idles high

Zab, First things first, check for any vacuum leaks, hoses that are disconnected, cracked or just plain worn out. Also check for vacuum leaks around the throttle body.
It really sounds like you have an EGR valve that is stuck open ever so slightly. The MAP sensor is a result of a low manifold vacuum. The IAC (idle air control) motor is trying to compesate and keep the engine running resulting in the high idle speed. I would remove the EGR valve and clean it gently with a brush and pick to remove any carbon build up.
Let me know, regards.

2000 Saturn LS, high idle durning cold weather. (2500 rpm)

Scan for codes, post any that are found, it could be a bad TPS sensor. Could also be a build up of carbon on the top (valve) portion of the engine. Try a few cans of "Sea Foam" through the intake manifold.
