Ok, just because the battery is cranking over, does not mean that the cell inside the battery are not weak. they will always take a charge. but as to how long they will keep that charge is the problem. all 12v systems are as follows so check yours.

all should have no more than 14.5v during a charge(engine running) anymore it will fry not only the battery, but other componets as well.

all should have no less than 12v with the engine off, and a load test of no more than 15sec, and a drop of 10v or higher should be present.

with a good battery and alt, there should be a drop in voltage no less than 8v during a start crank, and after it starts it should rapidly return to a 12.5v to 14.5v charge. I suggest to have the battery and altinator tested for a load, and cell state.

IF you say the battery is good HOW do you know have you had it checked by a volt amp tester ? if it is good then you need to check that the battery ground to engine is good and the battery ground to body is good also check the draw of the starter

Hello. Get a jump or recharge the battery and then drive it to a garage and have the charging system checked. Also, make sure the connectors are free of corrosion. If in doubt, clean up the contacts with some emory cloth. J.

My battery on a 2000 XJ8 is not charging. it has

Hey. You need to check the volatage on the battery with car switched on. Anything less that 14 volts that means that batt is not charging. ALso could be a faultuy batt considering youve had the alt changed .

99 Jag xj8l stopped shifting low gears, only goes in high gear.

You will need to have your tranny rebuilt or get a replacement. As a mechanic myslef, I have seen this a few times in the Jag XJ series. Those people eneded up having tranny replaced as well.

How do you reset an XJ8 radio?

Turn your key one turn ahead an let the car sit for a least 2 hours and the radio will unlock itself if this is what is going on with your Jag. Should put a battery pack on your battery while doing this or jumper cables.

Won't turn over

your starter is shot most likely. the noise is the drive gear at the end of the starter not throwing far enough onto the flywheel. Dont keep starting like this as a new flywheeel will be v expensive if damaged! Have your battery checked out too as a limp battery will not produce the power that the solenoid needs to throw that gear out properly and a new starter will fail too.
Pls rate me if this helps.
