    there is a piece of metal that looks like the letter L that is broken . are you telling me that i need the whole steering lock mechanism

    it is not wher the key goes into we already replaced that it is something that is connected to the lock mechanism

    more or less yes a complete new lock is the only answer ,it may be possible to repair something but how long will it last ,i mean this vehicle is showing as 23 yrs old so things are bound to wear out ,it was no doubt designed to have a life of ten years anyway so its done you proud hasnt it

if it wont start with the key only when hotwired my idea would go in the direction of the ignition barrel
hotwired start means its not the fuel pump because it runs
its possible the barrel isnt making the connection at the start position

Key turns to "start" position. Nothing happens, key doesn't spring back to "run".


Sounds like the link between the lock cylinder and the switch is broke.

Check your fusible links (wires that act like a fuse). The fusible links are located on the battery post on the starter, and some are located on the positive battery cable.

Check all ground wires and make sure they are tight. Start at the battery, starter, solenoid switch.

Vehicle will not start


try having someone turn the key to the start position while you tap on the starter it may be jammed or you might check for misallignment of the starter and make sure it is wired right.
